welcome to two giant goofballs a New York Giant podcast are you a goofball that loves Giant football if so sit back and relax as we talk about the team that both excit and frustrates us so much and now here are your goofball hosts Drew and Rob welcome fell goofballs to two giant goofballs New York Giants podcast I am Drew joined as always by am me AR and once again we can't lose this weekend it's the last time you can say that it's the last time after this you have to go back to residing to losses a that's sad cuz you're true I know I know I know especially probably next week but we'll see uh so yeah so sorry uh for anybody who was there Friday night we did have to cancel and postpone [Music] our excuse me cancel our program on Friday night there because somebody fell asleep and couldn't wake up and same problem I had on Wednesday I think it was that I fell asleep and L lucky Rob was able to wake me up there uh but yeah we uh unfortunately Rob and I do not do this as our regular source of income we do uh you know work regular jobs as well that are not nine to FES they are definitely you know like seven like sixes more like so yeah yeah I I had a I had a long but a a good week and when I sat down on the couch yeah I was done for sometimes when you when you get old like us that's what happens back on the on the plus side though this means we get to give you guys some Giants related content on a Sunday which let's be frank it's Sunday Su there is there is no really Giants content here um to give so uh at least we can make a Giants related because we're talking about quarterbacks in the draft it's our way too early guide to college quarterbacks and I say way too early because listen things are going to change between now and then that's life you know players are going to declare for draft and not declare for draft I mean let's be very Frank we get some guys listening here in our top 10 that probably will not come out to the draft even but we're going to put him in there because if we were to take just say hey you guys are the top 10 you're coming out no matter what they're out well I mean this is also like we said it's a very very jam-packed quarterback friendly draft but it's also you're still getting some players that postponed go going into the draft because of Co so you got some older players coming in and some younger guys coming into this draft so you got some like 20 year olds and you got some 24 year olds and it's safe to say the older guys are coming out and the younger guys may not come out that's what we mean by that like you just never know some of them have some weird circumstances like one person from The Lone Star State that'll probably come out because they want to avoid losing their job so um or you also got another you know odd Bunch over there with a very famous dad from the NFL that says no he go to s school he doesn't have to worry about making money he's got generational money that's what it boils down to so all right guys let's let's start off with our list here uh we're going to start off like most lists do at number 10 oh yes number 10 oh so number 10 we have Riley Leonard 64212 lb Hing from the Fantastic quarterback college of Duke University 21 years old a giant yes go to oh yes on top of that he's been injured for a good chunk of the Season an injury prone quarterback from duke sounds like a bit for Success organization oh yes so you know watched a lot of tape in this guy listen he's got a good arm he doesn't have a great arm he doesn't have the elite arm but he's got a legit NFL arm there are some throws he can't make um but when I watch him the more and more I watch this guy well one thing first off that scares me is the size he's 212 pounds right now he needs he needs to go to uh you know the golden Correll and that's gonna be like he's a young guy so 212 six he's 64 he's got he's got the frame to put on size he just turned 21 so he a chance to grow that beer gut yet give him 40 pounds kid we definitely don't condone underrage drinking yeah we didn't do it not at all not at all never I've never seen cannabis until it was legal in New Jersey a can of bus they put bus in the can they did put a bus in the can amazing um but you know I look at this guy and I think if he comes out right now he's probably GNA be more like a third round pick uh I think he's a career backup kind of guy that'll probably get a chance to start at some point just to see what he's got but that's what I see him as and you know he's had the chance now in a couple years in in this school where he's kind of got used to the system used to the players and he looks nice and crisp in it he just doesn't wow you know yeah he you know what he reminds me of is um Joshua dobs I would I would say a little higher than dos I do think he's got some potential where if you got a guy who's let's say you got a stacked team like um you know let's say the I'm trying to think of a good let's say the the ners for example let's use them as an example and you know all of a sudden they're out of quarterback which never happens in San Francisco of course um and you had to put him in he could function around a good team but I don't think think he's ever going to be the guy that's going to take a team to the next level or going to go ahead and you know ex you know Excel the people around him to bring them to the next level so listen there's a place for the people like that in the NFL they're a backup Baker Mayfield yeah they a backup that's going to have probably some starts in this league just to see what they are and to confirm or deny that you know um but I do think it's interesting is he's still a junior he's 21 years old as we talked about there he's got an injury this year which took a good chunk of his season away and I wonder if he goes you know what that around what I'm looking at because I've heard a lot of people said the same kind of number with him do I go ahead and go come back my senior year because the big you know elephant in the room here is these nil deals that people don't like to talk about when it comes to are they going to come out of college are they not going to come out of college because this is now now a different thing they don't have to worry about money sometimes I think if I'm him you're not going to get the best contract you probably think you could get because if he was if he was healthy you would talking about this guy in the second round maybe late first round depending on what goes on in the draft and who trades up who trades on doing all that like you're talking about like a you know poti like like we said like uh he's not going to be 100% starter in league but teams will use and capitalize this guy and he will have a fruitful career in the NFL so you know Colt McCoy that's the guy who comes in mind there we go there's a One Colt McCoy that's what I'm gonna compare him to all right I mean I think dos is more of a no but I'm saying like a guy with a good career as a backup that'll be in the league for quite a while that's what I think he's in big you know and I looked it up to his his nil valuation which just says this is what he should be be making I I can't see anything specific on how much he actually is making but they said he should be making about a quarter of a million a year on his nil deals yeah so stay in school pay off school with your school kids and then go in and get drafted in the late first round and second round and get a better contract than a third round pick that's what it boils down to and it's it's also it's a it's a risk though because let's say he gets injured again next year or he doesn't look as good next year now he could be a fourth or a fifth round pick that doesn't even get the chance toily ever get a chance to start or could be a guy that you know doesn't make it out of Camp even I mean that's the risk you take it is but you put yourself in a at a head of a 20 just turned 21 year old yeah you're making a quarter million dollars like he's sitting all right not not great but and he will definitely still be let's look at this from this perspective Malik Willis okay he's a third round pick at quarterback was drafted 86 overall probably about the same place if you would see a guy like this guy going with so his total contract is $5.1
million now so yeah if he stays the same stay in school but there's a risk staying in school there's a risk but even if like especially you're 21 years old you're going to B you're gonna do fully guaranteed by yeah yeah I so this is this is the mentality and this is like the you know what I take it it's not fully guaranteed it's not it's not fully guaranteed I take it back I'm sorry 5.6 sorry 500 567,000 is not guaranteed of the 5.1 million so he's guaranteed right the second he got drafted to make a little over 4 half million which is enough to live off the rest of your life basically let's be honest if you're you live like a normal person if you're smart invested wisely yeah you know listen so being a college kid coming off an injury do you want to go to the third round do you play again and then you don't play as well as you did previously your senior year and you get drafted around the same area you know you got four and a half million in the bank and then you made an extra quarter Mill I just I don't know I these guys go
I look at these guys and I go I don't know and you know what woo you know what I'm looking up here right now as we're talking it's funny that you find things out he entered the NCA NCAA transfer portal oh so that means he wants to eat Duke and go somewhere else interesting so he's staying in school oh yeah soart guy well again just because he enters that doesn't mean he can't still enter the draft but he's saying basically if I come if I come back I'm not going to Duke yeah that's an interesting move for a kid with a lot of potential if he goes to the right school and lights it up there could come out as a first round pick next year again I don't see that kind of talent but we haven't seen him on a good roster either that's part of when you play at school like Duke and this is we talked about we talked about this in nauseum when um you know when Daniel Jones came out like okay well he didn't have a high completion percentage but look at the receivers dropping the ball around him it's funny because you look back at and I was a giant fan at the same point and you go God damn it we were making excuses for him back then even before he got
attracted but it's like that's what but that's what you get is you don't have a talented team around you when you have a talented team around you it makes you look better as a whole 100% so yeah so we'll see what happens there overall with with Riley Leonard but like I said it looks like he has entered the transfer portal just two days ago um and that's probably why we didn't have on our list here because that was post us doing the notes here we're originally going to do this on Friday night instead of Sunday so yeah we'll have to keep an eye on him overall and see what he does but you know it sounds like to me if you're entering the transfer portal the least the idea of staying in school is on your brain with it not being probably the Leaning and probably the more highly likely factor in this so all right next up number nine n Carson Beck Carson Beck 6'4 220 pounds 21 years old coming out of the University of Georgia Georgia Georgia yes Bennett finally retired from college football at the ripe age of 47 and Carson Beck gets his chance to go ahead and play plays just one year and all the talks are they're fully expecting him to to come out of school keep in mind we talked about Riley Leonard a minute ago coming out of Duke there's nobody great behind you duke if you're a college if you're sorry if you're an NFL potential QB at a small school like Duke no one is battling for your spot at Georgia you are one of five top prospects at the quarterback position playing on that roster like that's what it feels like there's always someone breathing down your neck and if you don't Excel there is no guarantee that's your job again next year Carson Beck had a good year yeah can't sit there and say he Excel you can't sit there and say this is a Top Flight quarterback that is destined to go to the NFL and be a star he's yeah I mean he he's he could definitely progress like that his biggest problem is sometimes he holds the ball too long and in NFL that half a second makes all the difference huge and you he's got a strong arm like so he's he's taking that but the thing is he's not like a a mobile quarterback like his thing is like he sits in the pocket which that's what they want you to do in the NFL he's you know what he he he he's like more like that quarterback that sits in the pocket and like once or twice a game may run it real quick because there's nobody open never gonna do it but he's not the guy he he's definitely not Lamar Jackson coming into the NFL yeah he's more of a Carson wood h no sorry he's more of Kurt Cousins Kurt Cousins a good good good example there um now the other thing he also needs to learn is he needs to learn um a little better on the accuracy going downfield as well but he he's a guy that feels confident in the pocket you can tell that he can throw on the Run he's got some good skills and I think a lot of what teams are to look at and go okay we only saw one year of this kid starting but we also saw him doing well against SEC Talent which is the the best talent in all the college football you know landscape there so you go to a guy like this and you go you know what is do we see room for growth that's it they they look at the floor like all right you can go down here but let's look at the ceiling how high can you races are you a highrise or you a ranch style of house and usually when you're coming out of Georgia you're definitely not a ranch yeah and I and I see this guy going more of the career like we mentioned with Ry Leonard where he'll be a backup quarterb back um that'll be given a one-pointed chance to start and prove if he can be a legit star of this league but I look at this kid and I go you know what he's and it's nice we can actually say kidnap because they're in college I feel less insulting saying it because I always want to say it because these guys even play in the on the Giants are like you know 25 years old I'm sorry you're still somewhat of a kid at 25 I was 25 I remember we were stupid I 25 making dumb decisions exactly um but yeah I mean I think a team like let's say and it's weird because they they drafted his other you know his his former U starting quarterback buddy there uh but the LA Rams they need they you know a team like that A Team like let's say the Denver Broncos you know a team that has an older quarterback that is probably going to be around for a couple years but past that who knows I see the NFC South the NFC South needs some needs some quarterbacks that's for sure I don't think this is the guy because he goes to the NFC South I'm not saying I'm not saying that he's the guy I'm just saying this is the kind of moves that the NFC South would make because there's a lot of there's a lot of quarterback needs that I don't see it unless let's say hypothetically Carolina takes him because Andy Dalton Andy Dalton retires and they go okay this could be a good backup that's that I I don't think anybody sees this kid as the kid that goes and starts in the NFL right away I really don't I think he's he's going to be a guy that most people recognize doesn't have a lot of experience in college and is going to need a year or two to sit behind somebody and that's why I'm saying what I mean like a Denver and LA Rams you need to have somebody already set but maybe get a little long of the tooth to go ahead and give him a shot that would make sense but I also see him going sitting behind car and then getting shellacked see it depends I think what happens with jamus Winston that's not a bad spot necessarily let's go New Orleans if you want to sit a behind car but again it all depends on what happens with jamus Winston and what they do as far as him because I don't think they're sold on car 100% I don't think they're necessarily happy with what he's done this year have you watched have you watched that's what I'm saying like I it's like the only way I can see it happening it's the only way I can see it happen I wouldn't say that no I wouldn't say that but I would happen is if they go you know what we signed card to a big contract we need him for one more year let's sign somebody to put behind him for a year and then cut him next year and have this guy start if they see that in Carson Beck then go for it but to me at this there's just so many and this is where we're going to go into the issue this is a weird year there's so many good quarterbacks coming out of this draft potentially we'll see who actually comes out potentially yes yeah you can't say 100% you can't say 100% potentially even number one on our list is already said he might come back to college um but you're looking at it like like if you got a guy you're going to sit for one year and then start do you want to put a guy that this low on this list as that guy if he's going to be your future starter and you're drafting him to be your future starter you better see something really special in this kid to put him in that position and I don't see it I'm saying I'm not saying that I see it I just see this is the kind of move that the Saints would make yeah I don't know I don't I think they go a little higher no Tampa Bay has already got Kyle Tres at that point so if they get somebody they're getting a top tier guy they're not getting somebody um number eight and this is this is going to be the most interesting quarterback in this draft I really think because I could see this guy going a whole wide range of positions I really can yeah Quinn yers 6 fo2 206 pounds out of Texas 20 years old very very young to becoming out now nine times out of 10 he would not be coming out of college whatsoever he's nowhere near ready and I still wouldn't be surprised if he makes a move like we just talked about with um with uh Riley Leonard there where if he goes ahead and transfers because the big thing is he's got somebody breathing down his neck and it's a gentleman that Giants fans may have heard about once or twice in Arch Manning Arch Manning is there behind him so he has not ruled out coming back to Texas but I I think if he goes he's going to transfer I don't think he'll stay there and go behind knowing that he's going to lose his job at some point because Arch Manning has first off the last name but he's also got he's got a lot of talent you know he was a higher higher recruited this was like the highest recruited guy in college football in the last 10 years like it's Insanity I which people are watching this kid in high school uh again partially because of the name I don't want to take that part away from it because that definitely does a tribute to that when your uncles are two of the best college said two of the best quarterbacks to play in gener they were in they were in college as well but two the best the best quarterbacks to play in their you know prospective uh Generations there one of them uh you know uh a guaranteed is is pton in the Hall of Fame yet not I don't think so I think he's eligible yet right no he might eligible I think he's too young he's definitely not been in talks for this year um I think he's too young well now no he's he is he is in the Hall of Fame and then of course you got his other Uncle Eli Manning who becomes eligible um soon for the the Hall of Fame there um so that'll be next year was when Eli Eli can go can go ahead and be voted into the Hall of Fame so that'll be S interesting to watch because I'll tell you this Rob if gets in we're already playing a goofball party at Kon Ohio if he comes in oh yeah we're going we're going we're getting a trailer we're going to party it
up but when you have when you have uncles that together have four Super Bowl rings yeah things are expected um but as far as Quinn here he is extremely accurate this is a guy that's run this college system very well where he's got his issues though is mostly experienced to be very Frank yeah it's between the experience the size and dar immobility like he's he's not like the he's not the runaround like but in Texas you don't really expect that yeah but he's also he's got a little bit of mechanical issues as far as his arm throwing um which is kind of I said he's very accurate he's very accurate in short and medium yards he does have some issu with the long ball and I think a lot of that is the mechanics of it there he's just not throwing the right way because you know when you go when you when you go to to throw a ball and you're fine at like five 10 yards you can throw it normal when you got a heave at 35 yards you're putting a little more oomph behind it when you put that oomph behind I have to do I have do a little Bounce by oom oom oom oom when you put that oomph behind it you tend to lose some of your mechanics in the process and that's a very typical thing for young quarterbacks have to get taught to not do so I think that's a lot of what it is and I think that can be taught out of him there as long as he's willing to be taught but you know overall uh you know quick release confident the pocket but he's going to turn 21 in March very very young kid so this is another one that again position we've talked about that like the Rams the Broncos that kind of spot where he sit behind some there I do I also wouldn't be surprised if he stays in college one more year beefs up and you know beef go take a little Beefcake 5,000 beef beef but I do think I think he honestly I think he's gonna come out something tells me he's gonna come out and if I think if he comes out he's gonna be no not that kind of coming out um and I think that eventually he's going to get a chance to start in this league but I think someone's going to have to sit him for a little bit of time to get him kind of some more experience first and get some of those issues fixed with him but I do think that he's a guy that can go I can see him going anywhere from like late first and some coach falls in love with this kid to you know early third and he's got that wide of a range for me right now and I think probably get that shed up a little better as he goes to like you know um you know goes through his you know his pro day and his combine and people you know little zero in a little better on if he's coming out or not but yeah he's he's got some interesting stuff there yeah I I I I when I was looking at it over I'm like this is a kid goes in the second round and it's not knocking it's him just because there's a lot more quarterbacks to be talked about but he's had some really good games too like go back and watch that like Alabama tape or washon tape where he's playing some really good teams and in one case a really good quarterback and he at times looked like the best player on the field and that's that's why I'm saying he's got he's got some potential and you see it there you can see where others would see it there yeah it's just a matter if he can reach that full potential he's 20 yeah so he's he's going to go somewhere like like you said maybe like a Broncos sit behind um Russell Wilson who's looking way better this year we're talking college so I'm not gonna go too much Russell but you sit behind a great you head coach you know that won a Super Bowl you sit behind a quarterback that won a Super Bowl and you go somewhere that has an elite defense provides you the opportunity to make those mistakes and be able to come back from yeah yeah I think you'll see him get a chance at some point in this league to be a starter it's just a matter whether or not he's good enough to keep that spot and we we'll find out all right number seven numero C shador Sanders last name may ring a bell 6'2 216 pounds just 21 years old uh and I I'm going to preface this with obviously Rob alluded to before we don't think he's coming out nope he has the unique situation of it's not just his nil money he's got a little bit of family money there as well who's your Daddy what does he do yeah I mean when your dad is the head coach your dad is literally thought of as the best corner to ever play the game that's where Dion lands I mean love him or hate him and let's be honest his giant fans most of us hate him because he played for two of the three division Rivals and obviously was best known for his days in Dallas though I could sit there and say that his San Francisco days were all also pretty damn impressive as well obviously well as well as his landard days after Dallas he started going a little bit but um you look at his at at this guy's tape though and you can tell he was brought up in a NFL home you can tell he probably had the best coaches and availability at getting experience from the very early on days um you know besides the fact that he's got basically prototypical size at that point it's 6'2 um 216 pounds tells you he's a good weight overall maybe five extra pounds wouldn't hurt him at that point to give him a little bit extra but he's he's pretty decent weight there overall he's extremely comfortable in the pocket and he's 22 so right he's 20 21 oh oh is 21 okay yeah um excuse me he is also a guy that looks extremely comfortable in a shotgun formation which I do love because what is a shotgun that's an true NFL offense at that point that's not the kid playing the RPO like like Quinn you as we just talked about plays where you have some question of how much translates over to the NFL a shotgun offense is a legit NFL offense um he's extremely comfortable in the pocket he's got the athleticism to move around in the pocket though I wouldn't call him a running quarterback but he's got enough Mobility where he really Maneuvers around the pocket very well I mean he's got the speed he's got the bill to be like mobile quarterback like I mean I don't want to make the comparison but I guess I am about to GJ you don't look at that guy and think oh man that's a running quarterback that yeah that frame that's kind of like what Sanders looks like to me like he's not he can run the ball but he's more he's more prone to the the pocket not to compare him to our quarterback DJ though is a is an actual running quarterback shadur Sanders is a guy that if he has to he can do it but it's not really his game yeah whereas DJ it's his game um but he's a very smart quarterback overall he's got um you know he's definitely got leadership skills as well if you talked to the kids who played with him at Jackson State or at Colorado nobody said a damn thing negative against him at that point at all um I do think that he is best served though in one more year in college I agree with his decision if he does finalize the expected decision there because I do think he still has some issues with his mechanics overall which is a little bit weird because again we talked about the fact that obviously this is a kid who's had the greatest you know coaches and you know experience to grow up and be a a football player from the day he was basically born because of who his dad is you know but he's got some he's got some issues there overall um you know you sometimes see him Miss some throws that are pretty obvious and easy to get he just needs a little more experience I think yeah about say just I think you give him one more year and he'll come out potentially as as a first round pick whereas I think right now if he comes out he's probably a second round pick overall yeah um and somebody will take him with the idea they can fix those issues themselves at that point if that were the case uh he also needs to worry about holding on to the football he's do got a decent amount of flip fumbles as funny as you compared him before to Daniel Jones and there's the biggest comparison right there is the fumbling issue yeah and holding on to the ball too long for the NFL standards I could see him getting drafted by Green Bay like no I don't think Green Bay is drafting a quarterback at all no no I'm not talking about this year talk about like next year talking about if if like if the experiment fails with Jordan love yeah okay I mean you never know with that I don't I don't see that I actually like Jordan love so I don't see that personally I do too listen he started in both my fantasy leagues and I I have a lot of love for love and I said Eugene Smith in my fantasy league in one of my fantasy Leakes and he ped chacin on Thursday Night Football sh 40 points as a quarterback I made a mistake Jordan love prove me wrong if you're listening prove me wrong alrighty brings us up to number six we're almost halfway through whoa we're almost halfway there it's time for JJ McCarthy um 6 foot three whoa whoa whoa hey um six fo three 202 lbs uh 20 years old as well another young coming out of Michigan and I do think this is the one of the very first guys that I could say is gonna come out there's no doubt my mind is gonna come out and I think part because stop with the coming out shows shees why we call goofballs so 20 years old I said but so a little early to be coming out but I think the big issue is the fact that you look at what's going on in Michigan let's be honest and say that Harbaugh probably won't be there next year yeah yeah so he's got himself in a lot of trouble this F yeah I I think that's a safe safe safe bet to say that Harbaugh won't be there probably go back to the NFL at least for a little bit before he fails there and because he pisses off the players and goes back to college somewhere else um he's not a college I'm sorry we'll go a little tangent as we always do I don't think Harbaugh is an NFL coach I think he he coaches them like he coaches kids in in college and that has a very very small window it'll work that's why you saw what happened in San Francisco what happened they got very good the players got older the players sto tolerating being talked to that way and next thing you know it didn't work out yeah listen you can't you can't treat everyone like a your kid and treat like a douchebag yes exactly because you're because you are 19 year olds are used to being berated yeah 20 26 27 year olds go wait a minute I'm too big for this [ __ ] yeah literally and figerly like yeah exactly I'm 6'5 300 lb and I'm GNA let this 180 PB man talk to me like I'm a child yeah not going to happen har with a five figur say the face Haack yeah so here's the interesting thing with McCarthy is you see a lot of good in this kid overall you really do fast arm U Got the velocity you want to see he's not going be throwing the duck throws at that point that get intercepted um he he seems to be able to see what's going to happen on the field a little bit before happens to that point to lead a wide receiver at the right spot he looks off safeties you see a lot of what you want to see in an NFL quarterback this is not just a college quarterback uh you know but you look at his frame is one thing I have issues with uh um you know when things start breaking down in the pocket you see him get a little antsy and little foot tapping a little sooner than you want to see it which I'll tell you this as a giant fan makes me go oh not this guy we definitely have the line issues I don't think I don't think that's who I'd be interested in there um you know but again I think I think that he is a legit quarterback in this league and he's going to be given a chance to start and I mean possibly even right away this is that first guy that you're like okay this is a legit like I said a legit guy that legit quarterback guy I do think he's the guy who'd benefit from going to a position that has a good backup where he can sit for at least half the year or so and kind of try to break down some of these issues he has because when he gets rushed it's not just the happy feat it's the you know some of the mechanical issues start happening he starts getting a little nervous that's going to happen in the NFL folks yeah and if you're making mistakes when you're rushed that leads to bad plays that leads to interceptions he needs to get that going and you know there's some definitely some inconsistency overall in the vision we talked about him having good Vision he has it but just sometimes he just doesn't have it for whatever reason he makes a throw and you're like okay wow he really LED that receiver he saw him about to make that turn and he threw it right where the guy was GNA be comes out to protection like yeah once the protection starts breaking down he starts breaking down his site break it down de Generation
X old WWF they don't make it like they used to oh yes they don't they definitely don't I get all the YouTube shorts with the uh raw era what do they call it the was the era we used to watch with So Cold and The Rock and attitude error that's it uh interesting we just got an very interesting comment by by Deb Deb we're going to get to that comment just give you heads up I will have no problem addressing that one whatsoever I'll leave up to Rob whether he wants to because it's kind of a carious thing for us to weigh in on I feel like um but I'm gonna weigh in on I don't care I I don't I don't I don't no I have no problem getting into that conversation um but yeah I mean I think I think McCarthy is going to be a guy that you'll see be like a end of the first round early second round kind of quarterback is where I see him going kind of like it's interesting you brought up Carr before like same as Carr when he came out out of Nevada you know that's the kind of position I see him going um and I do think the nice thing is we talked about him needing to sit potentially a little bit that first year I think that's a good spot overall for him to go because it gives you a position to let him sit a little bit if you're a top 10 quarterback you're not going to you know you're not going to go ahead and sit at all let's be honest you get drafted that early you're going to start right off off the bat that's the way the NFL is nowadays yeah I was about to say modern NFL back in the day you you sat behind that the quarterback you had there and you learned now get in there and let's go oh you fell in your face yeah I love when they when they draft like a quarterback like third overall and they're like oh we're gonna we're gonna let him battle it out with this veteran we got that sucks and we're gonna see who wins and starts it's not bullshitting the public like you know who's gonna start like Dam you just spit that kind of capital to get that guy that that spot damn straight I I I just don't I don't know I I I just that annoys me when I see that kind of stuff it really does uh just just call like it is he's gonna start um yeah but like I said McCarthy's that guy that could sit a little bit there because of where he's goingon to get drafted so like I said I think a decent player he's one of those players that as you know giant fans talk about what do we do if if you know we're battling and we're top five overall in the draft we can't trade up and May and Caleb Williams are gone this is a potentially a guy that I could see the Giants liking even though we talked about the issue with the line breaking down um you know because you could sit him behind let's say hypothetically DJ's ready to go at the start of the year you could have DJ start for a while at that point with the plan to eventually bench him for McCarthy during the year or you could hypothetically let DJ play the whole year and just red shirt McCarthy basically give him an NFL red shirt and teach him a little bit it's interesting because we've talked about it before in the program of you know having DJ on contract next year is a bad thing and let's be honest it is a bad thing because of what we're going to pay him that's what it boils down to because of the issues of potentially having a guy who started five years now for you and the relationships he has with the quarterback you don't want to have a locker room issue you know but at the same point he does afford you some luxury to go ahead and let a guy sit behind him that she might not not have otherwise so yeah listen if it it's not the worst move right you start DJ all year you get rid of Tyra Taylor get rid of that Capital uh that to to your cap and then you have a guy like JJ that you know way cheaper I'm gonna give you an odd scenario too with this whole thing you know we talk about I talk about as far as you know having a potential issue with DJ starts because you don't want to create an issue with your locker room what does DJ get every single year injured I was goingon to say a Christmas card I'm sure he gets a Christmas card too but he gets injured every year so let's say hypothetically things are rolling he gets injured it gives you a chance to put JJ McCarthy in there and prove he's the better player and take the job from Jones so like I said it's an interesting position and I think that McCarthy is an interesting guy to look at overall where if he drops that second round because keep in mind it's when you're a crappy team you don't just pick early in the first round you pick early every round so if he's still sitting there in the second round and we didn't take a quarterback first you know in the first pick he's a guy that you could look at later on to go you know let's take this kid it's a less of a risk we could let him sit back there a little bit like I said an interesting position I think overall for him there all right we're going to go to top five picks before we do that we're going to pay the bills real quick and then we're going to go ahead and answer some of those questions we got a couple comments here enjoying the show looking for more goofball action consider a membership at buy me a coffee.com two giant goofballs membership start at just $5 and give you additional goofball access onetime support payments also available starting at just $3 buy me a coffee.com two giant goofballs alrighty Rob left the room he knows we're about to go into a controversial comment here from Deb so he's he's left the room uh my dad chimes in with Harbaugh will be in Chicago next year unless terer wants him uh I mean I could see Chicago being an interesting spot for him but I don't think that Carolina is a spot he would want to go to just because of teer I think teer has already got a kind of a a reputation as being a volatile owner u a guy who medals and kind of gives a very short leash to his coaches I don't think that's where Harbaugh would want to go again teer might throw a lot of money at him and that might change his mind money does change something but if I'm harball I want nowhere near Carolina yeah I don't I [ __ ] the problem with North Carolina or just Carolina if you will North Carolina is not the head coach problems Frank gr probably could have done could have easily the problem over there is [ __ ] you fired you've bought the team in 201 what 18 19 and you fired three head coaches in that time who wants to go there for a you can save four technically if you want to include the fact that um you know you also had uh um why am I drawing a blanket his name right now the defensive coordinator over in San Francisco that was their interim head coach Steve wils oh yeah so they they he wanted that job they didn't give it to him so I mean he technically his contract ran out as the interim head coach but I to me that's same as a firing right there he wanted come back uh Tapper was really good in stock market he buying assets what he's doing like he did the same thing with darno trying to get a cheap asset get some more Val I don't no I don't either but you can't you can't you took a shot you can't do the stock market to the NFL you need to hire a football coach that understands football not just that assets and the money side of things and [ __ ] you need to step away and Harbaugh is a guy that likes to go over there and get his hands in the middle of everything and have control and terer doesn't like that in a in a head coach I'm telling you right now I've said it before I'll say Chicago I I've said it before I'll say it again Las Vegas yeah I mean we said that the last show I think and and JJ McCarthy would be their pick at that point for quarterback they' find a way to get him and they would take him at you know they take him either by moving back in the first round and get him lead in the first like that I mean I I would see that happening I think it'd be interesting mix you know it's funny too you never it's like a new thing in NFL Now you see quarterbacks getting their receivers in you know the NFL you know like Joe burrow and you know obviously uh he's got you know Jamar Chase now you know you see that kind of stuff happening you see Tua you know getting uh getting no no not Tyreek I'm saying he's got Wadd you know you see things like that you know you see um Jaylen Herz you know got one of his college receivers I mean you see that more often now you don't only see the college quarterback college coach combo going over to the NFL and and to me there's there's there's potentially some good in that because got so I I think I think it's interesting to keep an eye and I think it could happen overall all right on to Deb's question so she says I'm going to bring a subject a subject you may not be comfortable addressing understood we hear the Giants will never draft a black QB do you want to weigh in that I'll say this I've never seen that said Point Blank obviously nobody would ever say that even if they had that kind of stupidity in mindset I've heard that they wouldn't just take any black quarterback and I would say look at Tyro Taylor yeah uh I would also bring up recently Gino Smith as well now do I think there was some Prejudice in this team overall in the past let's be very Frank and say there was Prejudice in the NFL as a whole in the past at that position specifically I was about to say when you're established in the 19 early 1900s you're one of the oldest organizations yeah there was a lot of prejudice back then well I mean you could sit there and say and I and listen let me be very clear how I wor this because it's not even the subject as much as I don't want to bash somebody that I don't have any personal opin you know I don't any personal knowledge of but let's look at Wellington Mara for example the guy died in 2005 right around the time that you know we already had Eli so we started making having some black quarterbacks now on this on this team after that point say the guy was born in 196 do you think do you think he may have had some racism in him because of the time period he was born in there's a possibility again I'm not I want to be very clear I'm not accusing I'm not saying I have any knowledge of it whatsoever but I'm saying it's definitely in the realm of possibilities because of the time period he was brought up in listen I mean Drew we're at that age as well that our grandfathers were not far off that age when they were born yeah and how many times have you gone to how many times have you gone to like a Thanksgiving dinner or Christmas and you look at your grandfather is he's saying something that shouldn't be said you're like H yeah I mean listen that's really like I said and you kind of combat it but it's like come on man you got a lot of people that are white that don't want to say those kind of things but yeah you and I will both say Point Blank that's that's there um you know and again I I think it's a different time now um you know again you've had Gino Smith start U you've had um you've had start was to bench Eli Manon who won the first black quarterback to ever start for the Giants um and then you had um obviously now Tyrod Taylor starting a little bit I don't let me put it this way I have no knowledge that prejudice was there specifically I do think that if it if it was it is not no longer there I don't think it's really a concern that we have overall now if let's say hypothetically the Giants somehow traded up and get the first overall pick and I don't think it's you know us spoil alerting by saying that Drake May and Caleb Williams be the people considered at that position obviously there's a difference in skin color between those two if Drake May got drafted the conversation would probably come up and people would be looking into it as a possibility not because Drake May is not a good quarterback or not potentially deserving of the first overall pick because people let's be honest immediately to stir up these kind of conversations and that's fine that's their job to stir up conversations that let's be very Frank people aren't always comfortable having I mean I wouldn't be surprised if Drake M goes number one that's something we're gonna talk about in a couple PS but if you had an organization like ours that has had those rumors in the past and that happened that's going to bring that topic up that's all no you're right you're right it's gonna bring the topic up and I'll say this if I found that out to be true because let's be honest we also have issues coming up potentially with the the uh the coach um uh what's his name that was with the uh the dolphins that we wanted to interview we got that lawsuit coming out too if I found out issues of any race issues within the Giants organization I would like to think they would address it fire the people appropriately and if not I'll be very honest I would have some issues with my Giants fandom if that didn't happen because same as like I said out of issues way back when um when the Giants when when when with when sorry when uh Michael Vic came back in the leek I would have had issues with the Giants getting him I would have issues with the Giants keeping the kicker we released a few years ago because of domestic violence issues you know there's these there's things that as much as I'm a fan there's some issues that as I have to morally hold on to that are above my fandom to a team and if I found out about issues of racism within an organization I would have trouble supporting them be very Frank yeah no I 100% agree like listen I probably become the two NFL goofball show at that point or something pretty much listen I was a big Ray Rice fan and then I saw I us hang out with him back in college not that I knew him personally I had his phone number us to drink with the guy at Ruckers same then I saw what he did to his now wife and like he did apologize but like my like Phenom of him just went from like oh yeah oh my God I love him to
like
dude listen you can't be doing that same thing with Kem
hunt yeah like yeah anyway I think we should go on from the sad part yeah real quick she just put here I want to so we can not bow back to the topic she but I hate this is still an issue in 2023 listen 100% is that a paps Blue Ribbon you're drinking at freaking noon oh my God yep PBR at noon anyway I think we can both agree on that I I don't think Rob and I are necessarily the two people to have this conversation as much just because obviously we are white we don't deal with these issues you know I'm always a big believer in the people that deal with these issues should be the spokespeople of those issues uh I'm there to support anywh I can obviously as is Rob you know we don't we don't believe in racism we don't like racism we're definitely very much against it in any way shape or form but but again uh yeah it's it's a shame it's an issue and let's be very Frank though unfortunately it'll probably be an issue for quite a while I like to think each generation is getting a little better with it but it's look at where we T talking about we talked about you know issues with you know our grandparents Generation Well that's you know within the last hundred years or so so it's been a very slow transition so unfortunately I hate that it's an issue but unfortunately it's probably going to be an issue for a while I hate to say it that way but it probably is so hopefully I'm wrong on that one if all the predictions I've given on the show if this is the one I'm wrong on I'll be goddamn happy but uh you said unfortunately it it is there uh all right let's let's move on to the rest of the comments here Raphael says hello Ola he says salute to you fellas what's up man uh my dad says if we can't get Jadon Daniels then I don't want a quarterback in the first round now I will ask this and and um he my I just saw last last count my dad is but but I says since you say if we if then I you don't want one of the ACC being in the first round I'm curious if you want to give a a reply to this what if we traded up and got Kayla Williams or Drake May I'm just I'm I'm curious his thoughts is he say because I know he loves Jaden Daniels we're going to find out how much so uh he says the Chargers may be a good landing spot for Harbaugh too that would be an interesting spot I I I think that's where uh B's going if we're GNA be honest he also says were there any highly regarded black QBs in the draft we drafted Eli or DJ and you know what Kyler Murray comes to the mind with DJ but he was already taken obviously yeah um otherwise then no I mean when you go to Eli's year it was him rivers and big Ben you know about all three as pasty pale as you get and then obviously list and then DJ again Kyler Murray but he was already taken I never heard anything as far as um issues with the what you know what the Giants thought of him overall as a as a quarterback but I think everybody knew Arizona was going to take him Arizona was not going to trade down so it wasn't really talked about um my dad also says Rob just lost all credibility for his choices by buying PBR and I agree with that one wholeheartedly I'm just saying come on you know better you know better he also says Caleb can't survive in New York which we'll get to that topic there in a little bit there because that'll definely come up so alrighty let's get on to our top five here this is this is these are the guys that if they're out you will probably see Five Guys come out into the first round of the draft and that's if because like I said leading up to number one even we're still debating whether or not he'll come out though obviously most of these guys will come out because just of their age they're a little older they get some them are get a little longer the tooth for you know where people are starting to think they're narcs from the cops at that point trying to get the drug Rings it's like a 21 Jump streight 21 Jump straight at this point I mean you know like I think that movies Michael penx got his first gray hair this morning so uh so first up is the guy that my dad was alluding to Jaden Daniels 6'4 210 lb 22 years old coming at LSU and it's a very interesting story with Jaden Daniels okay so he was not thought of as a very highly you know touted Cub Prospect coming into the season at all let's be very Frank on that he was not a guy that you're like oh we really need to keep an eye on Jaden Daniels this is the guy that really could do something but you know he comes out of Arizona State doesn't necess have the best you know time over there uh you also heard some players talking about issues with him as well uh he was also involved in that whole uh recruiting violations they had uh it has been reported that his mom um was paid more than $1,100 for flights overall I mean there's there's all kinds of issues as his time over there so again a lot of allegations a lot of rumors nothing that I can sit there and say this person has said this and have the receipts to prove it so I don't want to lambast the guy for that kind of stuff now he goes over to LSU obviously Brian Kelly is the head coach over there uh has a pretty good reputation as a coach overall and kind of has the second coming kind of becomes all of a sudden a Top Flight quarterback this season here um been very good especially against Zone coverage he's a guy that definitely has seen the spots for the gaps at that point and throws it right to it has a very good feel for the game overall got the intuitiveness to know where things are going uh doesn't get scared Under Pressure will escape when necessarily Under Pressure but doesn't necessar look to run the ball as one of his first things it's almost like that's like his fourth read yeah he you know like that in itself is like a something the giants look for your ability to stand the pressure and keep your cool and like he's really showing that this year like yeah he's taking on he's taken hits and just gotten up and like like he's in in a video game or something like it's like ah I got head ah he just gets Up's like all right hey we got to do this now all right yeah now if anything some people will tell you he takes too many hits almost like they talked about with Rogers and guys like that early in their career at that point that he needs to to learn to maneuver a little bit earlier at that point now that comes with time again we talked about that I just said we talked about that with Rogers when he was younger you haven't heard that in the last 10 years or so with Rogers that was his first couple years starting you develop that intern internal clock much better and keep in mind going to Arizona State which I believe is Pack 12 I believe uh I believe so and then you got LSU now which is SEC that time clock went down is a better competition level than than than anything the West Coast whatsoever listen this guy like we have him number five I've seen him like as high as number three dra and he's he's got the talent to be the third you know QB coming out of this draft yeah he does and that's I would say you're right three four and five are interchangeable depending on yeah you know this guy's got the arm Talent he's got the accuracy he's got the pocket management his he's able to get outside the pocket and move the problem is sometimes he holds on to the ball too long he gets hit takes unnecessary risk and sometimes it's like he has like on and off days which is something you could work into a player he's shown you he has talent he has the skills and now is how to manage them so like I can see him part of what worries me over part of what worries me overall with him is and it's it's I wouldn't say it precludes me using a SAT Word from wanting to draft him but what worries me a little bit is the fact that he's got one year that you look at and go he's a Top Flight quarterback and it makes me go okay is it the is it the system he's in that made him a Top Flight quarterback because let's be honest Brian Kelly's had a lot of success as as as a coach with multiple quarterbacks so it makes me go is this the system he's in and he's just gotten comfortable in his second year in it now he can run it the way it's meant to be run or is this potentially a career best kind of here and the rest of what we saw is more likely what he is so like I said and I'm not sitting there saying those are loud voices in my head but they're there but you also G to turn around and say like listen you had this turn around every now and then you still have the ball tents you had an Arizona but now you were able to produce a better with a better coaching staff oh my God turn [Laughter] around but yeah like I said I just like I said those voices are there in my head and that's why I have him at number five is because I have only one year of tape that shows me he's a top white quarterback with these other guys I have a little more tape at them to go so I was gonna say that's the only thing that's scary with this guy but if he plays like this and he shows that he's coachable yeah if he played this the last two three years he is number three let's be very Frank well I mean but if he starts the show like he's had the talent he just need the right coaching staff that means he's very malal to go into the NFL and become have a high cealing and my eyes yeah because that coach and staff could turn your you know turn around real fast and be like hey don't do this this is college ball this is NFL this is what you're gonna do this is what you're gonna do going forward and he could have a very fast acceleration to be a good quarterback in this NFL I will say this as you're bring up that point there as you bring up that point it's it's interesting that as I we talk about it being a potential negative as far as the fact that he's only been good for this one year at the same point I could sit there and say Brian Kelly coached him up into this offense and he excelled in it and he does have that coach ability yeah he does so I think this is not a guy you wonder if he's coachable he is coachable he will listen he will do what he's got to do so that's that that definitely goes in the plus column it's weird how that one year thing goes back in the negative and the positive column at the same time but it does 100% all righty number four and this is probably the first guy that I would say whoever drafts him he's gonna start right away because I think I think Jaden Daniels as good as he's gonna potentially be in the NFL I think somebody might sit there and say he needs a little bit of time just to fix a little bit of mechanics and get his speed up at that point on his throws first guy I think definitely going to start right off the bat though is bonick 6'2 225 pounds prototypical size for the quarterback Oregon 23 years old quack tastic so yeah 23 years old he's definitely coming out he's been in long enough he's he's he's getting a little over burnt in the oven here at this point um don't over cook that duck and it's it's the tail It's A Tail of Two bows here overall and that's the concern you get overall again there's positive and negative with all these guys here because let's be honest drafting a quarterback in into the NFL is it's one of those things that it's hit or miss and I'll tell you I'll be very Frank and say that I think a lot of this is a lot more luck than people want to say because we're all watching the same tape we're all seeing the same thing um so as far as A Tale of Two Cities there so he basically he started off in Auburn was not very good overall had definitely had some issues um when he went into the um the the transfer portal he literally described himself as miserable playing for the coach he had so there was issues with him and the coach um there was issues overall with the team um he was you know he definitely never had a good offensive line around him that was an issue uh I wonder if we've heard that before somewhere perhaps um you know didn't had the good I mean let's be honest Auburn is a team that plays in the SEC and is not really one of the better teams in the SEC it's almost like you're playing against the Harlem Globe Trotters you know what I'm saying like like you're not going to win no that's amazing that's but it's you know we're playing the Alabama the georgas of this world the teams that basically their backups get drafted into the NFL and you're basically got a team of their
backups let's call it what it is yeah just pretty fair assessment so again I'm not gonna give him a pass for what happened at Auburn but I do think there were some scenarios and some issues there overall so he goes to Oregon has two years left of eligibility plays the last two years there in his two years there he goes 10 and three and 11- two as a starter so 21 and five not a bad record now if you go over to what he did in his three years over at Auburn he was nine and four six and five six and four so still a winning record overall but he wasn't dominant like he was over here at you know Oregon the last couple years so he's playing lesser Talent at the Pack 12 let's be very Frank on that but he's also playing with a more dominant team within his you know within with within his conference yeah also he's older he's developed more like so it's there's a lot of things you could look at this as a plus and a and a negative yeah but like I said he's not he's not playing now where he's one of the worst teams in the conference he's playing now where he's one of the more Elite teams in that conference yeah that definitely helps he has better Talent around him than some of the guys he's facing week in week out whereas other days he's coming in equal against guys like Washington USC you know some of the teams out there at that point so again I'm not throwing away what he did at Auburn I'm not saying that it's not to be looked at because the people that don't like him let's be very Frank they're stuck on the Auburn days I prefer to look at it as he got better Talent around him something clicked and all of a sudden he's a better quarterback than he was at Auber 100% it's so it's you know what Joshua dos look at like look at him you dos you just have a dob infatuation here a little bit this year I didn't know I didn't realize he was a you know Aeronautics engineer oh yeah he's a very intelligent guy very but no I'm just saying like he was drafted by the Steelers yeah right he was behind big bened was it b a better position than being in front of Big Ben I'm just saying you're not wrong there but inappropriate jokes of Plenty but you know he moves around the league he's started as a backup and then this year like something clicked he won games for Arizona he moved over to the Vikings is winning games for them like sometimes it's the talent and the coaching around you that changes your game and elevates you it's also the older you get the more kind of things click with you and the more experience you have to help you understand this game yes so you could take all that into consideration when you're looking at bodic now as far as the positives there we talked about him perfect size overall he's got good passing motions there uh he's good at keeping his eyes down the field while he moves around in the pocket you know some guys they put it down they go look to see where they're going no his eyes are pretty much always downfield looking play um um very good accuracy overall some of the best in this draft I think yes um as far as what he's dealt with as far as the weaknesses the big weakness is looking at what he did in Auburn and saying how much of this is the people around him and how much this is him approving and unfortunately there is not a way of us knowing that there just isn't no you know um you know he's also got a little bit of issues when he is in having pocket issues similar we talk about with JJ McCarthy there overall uh you know but I think here's what I I I personally think of him what it what'll end up being is I think if I'm right you mentioned Kirk Cousins before with another one yeah I think this is the Kirk Cousins yeah it's definitely better analogy yeah I think he'll be a legit starter in this league I don't think he'll ever be the elite guy but I think his ceiling is above average starter where if you put the right team around him he could have success cousins but I don't think he'll be the guy that steps into a bad team and elevates them like CJ Stout did this
year that's where I got him at now I think that's a fair I think he will probably go mid first round yes unless a team gets desperate because of the position this is the one position where positional value gets kind of thrown out the window if you have a quarterback need and you have a quarterback you like you take him if he's available I will always sub subscribe to that theory he's too important a position so if somebody likes him enough he might go top 10 for all we know but I yeah I see him more towards the mid late round yeah first round like I said I think he's a guy that I think will be a starter in this league for quite a while potentially but I just like I said I again Kirk Cousins that's where I have him at so all right next up number three Michael penx Jr from the great state of Washington known for their delicious apples um he's a guy that just played bonck in this in this past weekend he played Just Friday night actually and he outplayed bonix it's part of what elevates him above him in my mind you were direct Rhythm you played above him um so didn't have many touchdowns because the running back kept getting touchdowns but he he had like twice as many yards if it's like a better player overall yeah if you become a giant you got Barkley behind you you got PR run back now let's get the elephant out of the room with him overall there's two elephants first off his size is again prototypical 62 221 his age he's 23 years old he will be 24 by time the draft hits he's an old man in this draft I'm telling you right now my my theory of of the age is is not really an issue you take whoever the best quarterback is and you call it a day because if you're going to tell me that I'm going to have a good quarterback for 10 years that I want to keep for 10 years I'm good with that I don't care if it's just 10 years that's a decade people were complaining about one or two years that's not listen nowadays with modern science a lot of these kids know going forward about take care of your health take care of your Fitness for longevity yeah like look at Tom Brady Tom Brady is an outlier yeah you're not going to be a quarterback for 20 years in the NFL but you know they're 24 it's not uncommon for somethingone like that to play It's Not Unusual to play into the late 30s so if he's got a good line like yeah stays and stays healthy for him key Point stays healthy he could have a long career in the NFL yeah and I and I think that the big thing also is that people do worry about is how much room for growth is there at that age at 24 years old and that's all depends on how coachable you are that's nothing to do with age yeah that's how coachable you are and I I'll say this as a as a reserve a reverse of that how coachable were you at 20 years old compared to 24 there's a big difference in maturity yes you definitely got your you definitely get your head on your shoulders a little bit better yeah listen that whole that whole thing can't teaching old dog new tricks is BS yeah coach you're teaching an old dog new tricks yeah exactly so um again I I I like him a lot and we need to um you know talk about the second elep in the room um the second eleph in the room obviously is going to be the injury issues so Michael penx before he went to Washington played for Indiana and was basically known as the quarterback who just couldn't stay on the field so he played three years for Indiana in those three for the New York actually actually four years I apologize he didn't he didn't didn't start his first year but he started for three years so in his three years of starting he played six games six games five games not very good two of those are ACL tears very scary to hear so I look now though at his Washington years 13 games 13 games didn't get hurt so with an injury history of a quarterback or really any player in general there's a couple things I like to look at how long ago were the injuries in this case here we're talking we've had two full healthy Seasons that tells me okay maybe it was just some bad luck he had had at Indiana now maybe it's not he just got lucky for two years you can play either side of that argument you can play either side of that argument and either one of them are valid opinions to have let me say that UPF front I could also look at and say okay the benefit of being two years since he's had an injury is I know if the injuries affected him it's not like you're drafting like like we talked about him last year henden hooker we've talked about him this year even as a potential trade candidate h hooker went through an ACL tear to end his college career you don't know what you're getting out of him when he comes back now history tells you where he probably should be based on you know prior injuries other quarterbacks have had but you don't know 100% till you see it yeah different different athletes come back from different injuries different correct there's a lot of difference in that one sentence but you know some people tearing their ACL are afraid to run forward to stand in the pocket some people are afraid to be mobile as a quarterback yep then you guys then you got someone like Tom Brady towards ACL hung out with his hot ex-wife for a whole year and came back and then went to the playoffs like nothing happened yeah I mean I'll say this if it wasn't for the injuries wasn't for the injuries whatsoever I would think he'd be a Surefire quarterback prospect be up there with the next two we're about to talk about whereas now because of that there is a clear deviation between the first two and these guys we're talking about now but penex is just as talented in my opinion as those guys and to me like it's almost a steal like people you bring up his age it's almost a steal because he's got more experience in college yeah who which he seems like he's a culturable you know player so he's got more experience coming into this NFL and you know he's a coachable player so that means he's to me that he's almost more ready to jump on this you know just to delete a team right away compared to these next two guys who are you know way younger if don't have that issues yeah I mean I look at it this way if you are a quarterback such as the Giants that needs a quarterback may not get the ability to get the first two guys because of draft position and Michael penx is on your board and you've looked at his medical which is a very big thing that these guys have access to that we don't have if it looks like everything is green on the medical and you don't have any major concerns by that again th if he is your guy if you exclude the the injury concern to me you have to take him now I'll say this if I'm the Giants owner and I'm John Mera or I'm Steve Tish I'm saying you know what let's get some [ __ ] grass in this field real
quick and and quash any QB concerns being drafted I'm just saying like that's gonna happen if I'm if I if I'm that I don't care if I'm paying for it of my own goddamn pocket I'm not risking grass with this kid I mean t with this kid yeah but if it's the most important position and if his medical checks out and you think he's the guy I would take him because to me this kid ceiling is probo caliber quarterback this kid's floor is one more injury and he doesn't play nearly as good because he doesn't come back from it correctly which don't get me wrong again if he gets a major injury he may come back from it no problem as well but I'm just giving you a floor that's the floor he is a boom or bust kind of pick and you know what sometimes you take your freaking shots if you're that confident a kid and I would have no problem family we laying outside every Sunday yeah um so I think it's a good move overall to take him by a team that needs a quarterback and it's a ballsy move because of the injury concerns but I like him a lot I watched this kid play and I like him a lot I really and I I like I like somebody who's overcome adversity in their life and don't tell me coming back from those kind of injuries going to a new school and becoming a top tier quarterback is not overcoming adversity he has learned things from doing that that most people never learn in life no 100% I think wherever he goes he will have a damn good career in this NFL yeah I don't know why I this NFL again for the second time in this podcast yeah I don't know you like it you like it so like I said we will see what they think because it's all based on what they think and what the Medicals come at we don't have access to Medicals we have to guess so assuming is is medical all comes out good that's where I'm at all right on to number two number two Drake okay I was about say our number two could be like my number one like I'm very very flippy floppy of where these two are going to go so I I don't see I don't see him as a clear number two I just want to put that out there before you who does number two work for um you want you want to give him a one and a half is that what you want to give him one and a half just saying like he's up there like I think I know we'll talk we'll talk about draft moves after we talk about these quarterbacks but like I just see some moves going around he might be the number one guy get going okay I think everybody knows who number one is going to be so I don't think it's it's it's hiding anything by saying anything about that person in this conversation so we can we can kind of talk about that a little bit but Drake May 6'4 232 pounds out of North Carolina 21 years old average stereotypical I just say average that's that he's a stereotypical what you want yeah QB size here's what let just what just call it out we already know number one's Kayla Williams everybody knows that if you don't I'm sorry you don't know college football or anything coming up in the strap and thank you for choosing us to be your first video you watched about the college players coming out uh but here's here's where my thing is with Caleb Williams and Drake may as far as that argument there Caleb Williams has a higher ceiling than Drake May Caleb William has a lower floor than Drake may I think Drake May is a safer pick but I think that you run into a bunch of issues if you take Drake May over kid Caleb Williams one the comparisons will be there his whole goddamn career and if Caleb William reaches that ceiling then that's gonna hurt Drake May if you take him ahead of him because the fans of whatever team takes Drake May over Kaya Williams in that hypothetical scenario will'll never let that go and he could be a pro bowl caliber quarterback but they could sit there and say we could have had this all pro quarterback it's kind of like let's say for example if you were you like draft like Bryce young and then you realize he just Stout a second coming out it's no no no no no no I'm not even going that scenario because that's like let's be honest Bryce young is on the way to potentially be a bust and I'm not trying to put that label on on Drake May before he's even played a game but let's say for example if you drafted Lamar Jackson number one and number two goes Patrick Mahomes I'll use that since everybody likes to compare Caleb Williams to Patrick Mahomes I don't I don't I don't want to give that comparison up personally but I've seen that a lot of places I've seen that but part of me also is it's because of his improvising and throwing sidearm and all the stuff that Patrick Mahomes does that he does but what I'm saying is Lamar Jackson is a very good quarterback in this league he's got a very good you know resume so far and I think most teams would take Lamar Jackson in a heartbeat on their team even though last offseason kind of disproved some of that because they're still idity uh but what I'm getting at is Lamar Jackson is the guy you would not be upset if you drafted yes but if you drafted him it could have had Patrick Mahomes you'd be like what the hell it could have had Patrick Mahomes yeah I mean a lot of people compared um what's his face to Mahomes like you said they also could turn out to be Justin Fields 100% And but I'm but what I'm just getting at is that's the conversation
Drake May will Heights thatb
Williams that's fair to say but I don't think he'll ever sink down as low as kale Williams can I compared Kay Williams to Ryan Leaf and I still think the comparison is there and that's scary because we're about to put him as number one on this list but I think that comparison is still there so let's get a little more to Drake May and then we'll discuss kind of the downfalls of Caleb will there in a minute here um again as you alluded to absolutely perfect size like if you were to like design a quarterback in a lab this would be what you would design him to be at if you're Mak a quarterback in Madden this is what you come up with six foot4 he'll have no problem Shing any offensive line but he's not going to be the 6 foot6 6' s guy whose arm is too long and has a slow release because of that um you know he's got enough pass on him yeah so it's like he can take a hit he can still move like you said great philosopy his arm Talent is yeah fantastic he's also he's also very good as far as um you know elusiveness in the pocket as far as taking off when he has to um say he comes up Off Script pretty well kind of like a Mahomes most of his issues really are in his footwork in his posture in the pocket those kind of things these are all things that people think they can take out of him with coaching and that's where the issues you go okay well I can coach that I can teach that now a lot of that though again is how coachable is he that's always the variable that we don't know the the guys in the NFL though feel like they can talk to the people and find out and if somebody thinks they can fix him as far as and I say fix him as far as he's broken but like fix those issues about him they think they're going to get a a potential Pro Bowl caliber quarterback yeah 100% but I feel like this is the same conversation we also had with a guy like Mitch TR bisy when he came out of the same
school it's he's having a great career as a backup but it's what scares me mostly about him is where he plays I haven't seen him play against Top Talent on a regular basis I have just haven't seen it you know uh um that's that to me is a is a scary proposition I trust my eyes when I see him play against you know Top Flight quarterback Top Flight teams on a week in week out basis that's what I trusted but when I see a team that's eight and4 overall in the AC and four and four in the ACC and I let me read off to you the the teams they have played this year and and this is this is my big reason why I can't put him ahead of Caleb Williams okay starts off South Carolina goes to Appalachian State Minnesota pit Syracuse Miami Florida Virginia Virginia Tech I sorry I mean Georgia Tech sorry the then plays the Campbell camels the Campbell camels let's let's let's let that s it for a minute I could the Campbell University team play for but the fact they call them camels like oh no the camels are coming you know me on names then you got Duke then he got Clemson and NC State now his losses were NC State Clemson Virginia and Georgia Tech pretty much the strongest teams on this schedule how much of that is North Carolina not being as good a team and how much is that on him I don't know and this where he plays to me is the biggest Con in the pro and con columns I don't trust where he played that I have a true evaluation on how he is as a quarterback because I haven't seen him play week and week out against these top white so when I talked before about his ceiling being Pro Bowl his floor is probably decent backup quarterback I don't think he's a complete absolute bust but I can't sit there and say he's a Bonafide starter in this league like that I think he's a little bit more a little bit better at shabisky coming out oh I I I make that as a joke I mean M jisy also had one year of starting and that's it you know I mean there there's there's definitely but I'm just saying that as as a comparison because of the school they came out in you know he was highly touted coming out of North Carolina I say he's a good backup right now I just like I said the school he comes out of is the biggest thing that that scares me overall you know that's a fair statement I'm not going to disagree with that yeah I mean like oh you lit up Appalachian State good job you beat them camel toes yeah you beat the camels I mean like seriously like what I mean h like I said I and I'm not and I'm not anti-h him it's just a legitimate concern I have coming into him as an NFL player that's where I'm at ACC is a very weak conference and he plays teams that like I said I never even heard of one of these teams before that's how small a school it is that's a scary camels you won't be playing the camels on Sunday I assure you on that but you may be playing Raiders so be all right that's kind the camels all right let's get up to number one here oh by the way we we forgot to talk about a couple of the guys as far as draft position Michael penx is top 10 overall Drake May will probably go number two overall probably that that depends and we'll get into this after we talk about Caleb let's talk about number one then Caleb Williams let's just go right into it then because I said we already said who he was everybody already knew who he was I don't think anybody had any questions on that whatsoever 6'1 218 pounds at a UFC uh 21 years old at that point um so I think overall you look at this guy and everybody thinks he is an automatic home run that loves him yeah and there's two schools in that there's people that love him and swear this is the second coming of Patrick Mahomes that's what this kid's gonna be let's be honest he has great arm Talent overall he's a great Scrambler he's a guy who like momes he's mobile but he doesn't look to take off with the ball he looks to buy time for his receivers to come back to him or get open and some of his most impressive throws are in a scramble where he's not sat down to throw the ball but he is in a run like momes you see all the time he's in mid-stride and throws a 20 yard bomb it's like that is armed out that's impressive so 20 yards but you as far as his negativity the line for USC has not necessarily been the best for him overall it has given him times where he has Happy Feet and he leaves the pocket prior to when he has to overall um the other issue really is his height and I'm sorry size um you know 6 foot one is kind of borderline where you're talking you know Drew breze kind of size at that point I'm okay with 510 is he 510 I thought he was a little a little taller than that he was 510 six foot one is borderline he might be 5'9 I think he was 510 in combine which means he probably 5'9 he wor he wore hooker boots while playing put socks in his cleats you know I I think that you know I think the big thing for for for me is I look at you know 6' one is borderline for me height-wise 218 is a little bit light on the on the weight overall for me and actually the SC report that I had on was 216 at 18 so it's taking away some yeah so a little bit small but not unheard of small I'll put it that way I mean you got plenty of guys playing at that size my biggest issue is the mentalness and you know I don't think Caleb Williams is built for New York I think that's one thing right there off the bat that I'm going to say he's number one on the board but if the Giants we talk about the potential controversy if they were to take Drake May over him I could see them doing it because of the mentalness of it yeah when you go crying to your mom about an interception that's that's something that's not made for New York because even if you have a a good game you're going to have a newspaper article or some kind of paper Rin about how you could have done better let's give this analogy real quick okay let's say you're on a sales team I'm going to use that as an example since I've worked in sales for much of my professional career and your supervisor has a meeting because you were close to hitting your sales Target but didn't quite make it and you go to a meeting and this guy climbs into his mom's lap and stops starts
crying like I understand that he has emotions I understand he has emotions and I'm not knocking him for emotions Robin I are not this these people that say men cannot have emotions men cannot cry I have cried on multiple occasions of my life I have no problem it's usually when either someone passes or I'm watching The Lion King of Mufasa dies yeah muasa say say it again mu I admit freely that I'm emotional guy and can watch movies and cry and stuff like that that's fine that's nothing wrong with that whatsoever what I do have an issue with is if you want to be a leader of men and when I say men I just mean people in general football is just a a sport that is played by men if you want to be a leader you need to be able to show strength in front of the people that you're supposed to be leading listen and yeah we talked about this before like I like if you lose the Super Bowl and you pulled your heart out you worked your ass off and you start crying a little bit like it's emotional like you just trained very hard you got to this high level aspect and you lost I see a little bit of cry there don't start crying over an interception get back in the game and Coach up your guys but see but I think this the second part of the issue is with that is is also that if he had been crying a little bit out of emotion and not Bal falling like a baby like he was and he did that with his team with his team it's different it's different you know there's a lot of emotions Super Bowl you're about to win the game and you throw a pick six you're allowed to cry a little bit and apologize to your team I [ __ ] that up excuse my language but like I did that but yeah I think we're B so we're good I just I don't like the way that went down at all I I also think that I think that there's a lot of business aspect with Caleb as well what I mean by that is there are guys who love football and there are guys who love football but there's business decisions they make as well and I think he falls into that category like he's already pring around about the car he's driving and that kind of stuff we talk about the nil deals before just for the record he made n made $2.7 Million last year off nil deals he's not a poor kid he's not a kid who's ever have to worry about money the rest of his life whether he goes to play one more year in college like he's talked about potentially doing so that's part of the equation we need to talk about this as well there's no guarantee he comes out because he made $2.7 million this year he can make another one have $5 million at that point and never have to worry about money again even if he busts in the NFL or even if he get starts injured or fall falters down like because anybody says oh yeah he can play one more year and came out as the first overall pick next year let me remind you guys of Matt ler who also played for the same school was going to be the first one overall and then came out and was drafted by the Arizona Cardinals and I want to say like mid to late first round he was not a first round pick I mean it was not a first overall pick like he was gonna be so you know again there's risk when you make these moves you know as she was drafted 10th overall by the Cardinals I take it back I'm misremembering I had to Google it to verify but yeah still goog drafted 10th overall and here's the scary thing for you guys Matt leard is 40 years old he has not played football since 2012 that's how quickly he was out of the league he was even 30 before he was out of the league guys so again the guys that are number one overall automatics they're not as automatic as you think they are because here's a guy from the same exact school with that same exact kind of issue same exact kind of pedigree how he's been winner number one Prospect in all of college sports you know but like I said to me the mentality is the thing I can't get past I can't get past that because of where our team is if you go put him in you know I would even say Chicago I think Chicago he'd have a similar issue as well that's a tough City to play for as well yeah I I mean I don't see him going to Chicago at all that's actually something I was going to get to at the end of this but we're we're still talking about Caleb but I think Chicago might do some bossy moves I don't think they're gonna draft a quarterback I think they're gonna keep Fields I think they're gonna trade I don't think they I think they trade that number one pick I think they'll trade fi I think they're going to go and get uh was it Harrison J J the wide receiver I think that's the move they're going to move and I think they're going to take a quarterback like in the second or third round I think that I personally think they're gonna they're going to trade um they're G to trade Fields I think personally but I mean if you look at this top 10 team you got Chicago number one and I don't think he would survive in Chicago with this mentality I think Arizona he easily could survive but they s CER and that's where the interesting part comes into that's where the interesting thing comes into but get Kyler Murray it depends on how he plays down the line New England he would not be good there no Chicago we already talked about not being good there Washington we' had issues there New York would have issues there it's not until number seven at Tampa Bay that there's a team with that lower media where you don't have to worry about the attention of getting a New York Chicago Boston kind of mentality it's it's going to be interesting and this is why I talk about him as a Ryan Leaf potential now Ryan Leaf is his floor don't get me wrong that is his floor he still has the potential even the ones that were wrong and he excels and has no problem with these media people and you know excels and does great things and becomes you know a Patrick Mahomes esque kind of player that is his healing but that floor is just so low it scares me because if he has a mental
breakdown that's an issue there's a difference of a mental breakdown on a college stage compared to the NFL there's a way more there's way more eyes on you I really just I do not see this going well for him in a lot of these teams that are coming up in the top 10 now if you had told me like the top 10 picks are Arizona Tampa Bay Tennessee Las Vegas you know that kind of those kind of places yeah he's going to a place where he's not going to have the issues with the media he would have elsewhere because don't think for a second that there are not media people in the New York Market looking at you Pat Leonard that would love to make him cry on camera and mess with
him you know damn sure I'm just saying there's one there's a pat Leonard in each of these cities
guys so again I don't know him personally I can't pretend to know his mental makeup but that's a big flag for me as a potential issue there all right yes so there's our top 10 let's go through the last couple comments here real quick and then we'll get out of here we're almost two hours in this is like our longest this been a long one we should have done top five we [Laughter] should I think we would have to because there's there's a lot of uh players that I we could swap around top five is pretty clear but there's some players that like six seven you think maybe could be a five so yeah maybe it should have been two-parter all righty so my dad says Bo Nick's as tough as they come but he's surrounded by Talent now I think he is what he showed versus Washington yesterday good but not great yeah and that's that's where I'm at as well I think he'd be a good starting quarterback in this league I'm not sold that him being a great one there's a ceiling there a potential to do it but I think he's got to get surrounded by the right people um he says penex has too much of an injury history for me he has been great over the last few games and you have to wonder if he's playing through another injury it's possible but he looked pretty good Friday so yeah he also said with with penex he says an ACL tear on your plant leg is more worrisome and yes that is 100% right because you're going to pull in that Tenon a little bit each time you go ahead and sling the ball there at that point but again he's been playing on that issue that re that twice rep uh repaired ACL for the last two seasons with no issue so um he says Drake May is more armed talent and experience than trabis that's not incorrect but I don't know like I said my issue with him is is where he plays more than anything else he says my fear is that the Giants will look at me as another Josh Allen I could see that because again Josh Allen his issues were his you know his motions in the pocket his is is you know mechanics and that's what we're talking about here with Drake may as well some mechanic issues um um he says also Olivia says hi which is my little sister if you can see her there in the picture there he's got up there at that point hi hi Olivia um Deb says before seeing results this year who would you guys have drafted first in 20123 younger stoud and we talked we were Stroud we what we said was gonna happen is basically what happened I think we were pretty aminate in saying that Carolina would regret not drafting when the days up to the draft when they talked about it I'm pretty sure we went on a rant about how stupid a move that would be even which I know Rants and us crazy but yeah go figure but yeah we we pretty much were very early on saying that shout was the guy and it was weird that all this negative news was coming out right before the draft and we felt like that was kind of a plant by Carolina to make them seem more wise for making the move but you know that was a dumb move dumb move and yeah but the I mean yeah CJ Stout is generational he's G to be fantastic as long as he can be healthy he's gonna be absolutely a stud look what he's already done when T Dell tank Dell too that little tiny tank yeah but tank Dell is another interesting guy we talked about little schools like a little school coming out of Houston itself and you know plays now for Houston ironically but um you know you come out a little school sometimes you get these guys out of little schools and they're just as good as they look on tape and sometimes it's who they played and that's why I'm a big fan of taking guys at a little schools later on in the draft because if you see a guy going against go playing for Alabama let's say hypothetically and you get to draft him in the fifth round you already know what he is you know what he is sometimes it's he got he got he got put behind somebody else if he's a backup and you could I take the chance at a backup from Alabama that I really think is good in the chances he got the show but if he's been starting with Team like Alabama or Georgia you know what he is whereas the guy from Appalachian State or playing for the camels or something like that I mean you just don't know because you haven't seen him play there it's worth the risk but yeah no we were definitely very very big on CJ's drown very big on CJ's drown we yeah we were very clear that we thought he was the best and he's been that way so Kudos is
