are you a goofball that loves Giant football if so sit back and relax ew that person driving on the road your ears though can still listen as we talk about the team that both excite and frustrates us so much and now and now here are your goofball hosts Drew and Rob welcome fellow goofballs the two giant goofballs the New York Giants podcast I am Drew joined as always bye let's get some predictions on the road oh today is an exciting exciting episode here folks so we plan on doing our prediction show for the 53-man roster obviously that's going to happen on Tuesday when they make the cuts Downs here like let's let's do our predictions who we think's gonna win in the position battles here who's gonna get a spot of the rosters here and then all of a sudden the giants made a trade this morning

it's like whoa we were not expecting to have

[Music] or trade alert oh yeah because the Giants today traded with the Arizona Cardinals for a player that Giants fans have wanted since the 2020 NFL draft if you remember there was a huge battle between Giants fans basically of saying we need to get Isaiah Simmons because this man is the most you know explosive athletic guy pretty much ever at the linebacker position remember you do a did a 4.3 940 time which is like unheard of for a linebacker and there was the other side of the argument saying No this line sucks we need a lineman there's a lot of good tackles let's get one and I I think that we made the right decision obviously because we have one of the best tackles in football right now um but even if that hadn't panned out it was still the right decision to get a tackle but today we for once made both sides happy because we now have Isaiah Simmons traded today to the New York football Giants for a seventh round pick seventh round that's that's pretty crazy kind of fact it was a first round take she has a few seasons ago seriously talk about how the mighty have fallen here I mean you're talking eighth overall pick in 2028 and obviously he's still young he's going into his fourth year here it's not like he's you know talking six seven years later here this is uh just need some good coaching behind him he needs a few things I'll agree and part of that I think coaching is definitely part of it but I think also part of it is give the man a freaking home already that's one of the things I think really messed him up because he's gone through multiple defensive systems in his short time in Arizona and they keep just they don't know where to put them so last year for example we think of Isaiah Simmons as a linebacker because that's how he was drafted at so he came out of college 33 of his plays real linebacker last year twelve percent an edge 49 a corner corner well that's the Arizona for you six percent at safety let me be the first to tell you guys if you don't know he's not a goddamn corner yeah when you're playing half your snaps that corner that's an issue so I've spent a lot of time today looking at tape on Isaiah Simmons uh I also tuned into a couple of Arizona podcasts and things like that to see because obviously they have a little better you know pulse on the Arizona Cardinals fans than I do so I wanted to see what what's going on what what they're thinking of him overall and here's the general feedback I've gotten if there's a damn good chance that the Cardinals messed him mentally basically because they just moved them around everywhere but even when they did put them at one spot for a while they didn't use him in the way he's meant to be used so you got pros and cons with Isaiah Simmons the pros obviously first off his athleticism

he's also very good in man coverage very good in mind coverage there but if you want to go into the not so good he sucks in zone let's call it like it is he sucks in zone coverage if you look at a lot of the Highlight Reel catches that have been going against the Arizona Cardinals it's with him in zone coverage typically or they're trying to put him on a Top Flight receiver like I saw uh one last uh it's like last year the year before I saw on the Cardinals were playing the Chiefs and Nicole Hartman went off on him for a huge huge gain why why are a speedy receiver like Hardman being covered by Simmons yeah that's not what he's meant for so you know he's just I said it wasn't used properly at all and I'm not going to sit here and say who's gonna be a stellar player with the Giants and prove himself worthy of an eighth overall pick because the Giants have him now that's a little crazy yeah I mean we see what our coaches have to do with so we'll always hear talent and there's a reason why he was picked number seven oh yeah just a few years ago and like you said he just hasn't found a home on the field where to play and a system that works for him well it's also like you said the system because don't put the man in zone coverage if you can't do Zone coverage accept his limitations but what has been the problem we've been having Rob for the last what 10 years now yes who can't we cover who can't we cover tight ends 100 now we have a guy who's got all the athleticism of the best tight ends in the NFL he doesn't have to be the primary linebacker because okara K is there still you can put him at the second linebacker position you can have him be the guy covering running backs tight ends you know the positions that have been killing us for the last 10 years but keep the man in man coverage which what this Wing play man coverage you know he's also I've seen some good plays for him as far as you know like you talk about Edge players when they're coming at the draft and everybody talks about do they have the bend do they have the bend I don't know why it's such like a Hot Topic to always say but so for those who are unaware what they mean by that instead of them just bull rushing and doing a power rush move it's can they maneuver their body to get through small gaps that are in between the offensive lineman there Simmons has that if you want him to bull rush though into a power rush move he's not going to do that I said there's pros and cons with this man you know and I think this coaching staff has the ability to get the best out of him I have a lot of confidence which sounds weird as a giant fan to say I have confidence the coaching staff it's amazing yeah and I think he'll probably become a starting linebacker for us and I think that's where his home is going to be uh Brian dabel talked about the the uh the trade today at his presser and wouldn't commit to it but all the rumors are is that they see him as a linebacker and that's where they want to put him at the able gave his usual answer let's get him to come in we'll see what happens you never know

don't don't tell people what you want to do with this man because let's be honest here he's probably not going to play in the Jets game

he might even start for the first week or two even but he's going to be a guy that I'm telling you I think it's it's an upgrade for us over McFadden over beavers um it's just a matter of how much of an upgrade so say let's not get into that yet because we have to go down the hole that's why I only gave two names I think everybody knew McFadden and beavers were making the roster I think that's pretty obvious so you know it if you talk about him as a teammate DeAndre Hopkins went ahead and gave a tweet out and called this trade a steal it was since deleted because my guess was somebody with the Titans or his agency said stop you should take that down don't don't go ahead and poke the bear there but yeah I do think that that shows something when a guy like Hopkins who let's be honest he's outspoken he's always been outspoken to a good degree there but he puts on himself to say hey this is a steal this is a good guy this is a great player to have on your team so you know I'm pretty excited to see what happens with them yeah if he's saying that because listen if he was garbage he would have said that yeah I think I think it's safe to say that Hopkins is a very talented NFL player and has been throughout his career so yeah he knows town so the Cardinals if you want to get us a crazy thing the Cardinals were extremely busy today yeah extremely busy today three trades today the trifecta so you want to talk about what a steal this was listen to what the other trades were the Cardinals sent a fifth round pick to the Cleveland Browns for a quarterback Joshua Dobbs remember him he's the guy who was the quarterback for the Titans last year towards the end of the season for Dobbs end to seventh so they went up they went down the Browns went up two rounds by getting uh getting rid of Dobbs so they got more for Joshua Dobbs then the Cardinals got for Isaiah Simmons

that's a little crazy I'm just shaking my head because this is like now they want to be ranked number 32 in the NFL uh I I actually do I actually do think that is the case I'm not even kidding I think they're 100 tanking they're done they want the first overall pick whether or not they want to go ahead and get a new quarterback or they want to just use it to get a whole bunch of picks for the future I don't know but it's pretty obvious to me they're taken now they also traded Josh Jones offensive lineman who started 11 games for them last year to the Texans with the seventh or a fifth as well

so Josh Jones and Joshua Dobbs were worth more today

than Isaiah Simmons

now why do I say that on a Giants podcast because I also want you guys to temper your expectations to a certain degree because I've seen some really goddamn excited Giants fans out there and listen be happy be excited it's a steal there's pretty much no way this trade does not work out in our favor it's a seventh round pick

so I think the big thing to look at though is they gave him up for nothing that tells you what the Cardinals organization thinks of so can we fix them hopefully hopefully we can fix them but is this a guaranteed success story no no no we're all we know we could see him and start flipping out except Tony we're now Cardinal fans were tired of seeing him on the opposite end of highlight reels we're gonna find out was that because the Cardinals didn't put him in the right position or because he just isn't as good a player as people thought he was coming out of college I'm willing to bet that it's somewhere in the middle is where that is yeah he's probably not a Top Flight guy but what really impressed but what really impressed me was his man covered skills and his ability to rush the passer which are two things that Wink Martindale wants to use

yeah I'm good for your strengths yeah I'm excited I'm excited I'm moderately excited though yeah moderately excited he's not going to be a pro bowl caliber kind of player probably that's that's call it what it is but he's probably better than what we got anytime you can improve your roster for a seventh round pick freaking done yep so absolutely absolutely um so before we get started with the uh before before we start with the roster predictions here we do have another bit of Giants news here because the Giants signed the player today just for today just for today one day shine Prince amuka Mora signs a one day contract with the New York Giants as a giant exactly once the giant always a giant

first round pick of ours back in 2011. who else feels old hearing that uh 19th overall pick unanimous All-American coming out of Nebraska in 2010. five years he spent as a New York Giant uh got a Super Bowl ring his rookie year with us didn't do a lot that year don't get me wrong what's the intrical part of there but he was still part of the team um after his five years with the Giants spent one year with the Jags three years with the Bears then 2020 split time between the Raiders and the um uh during camp and then Cardinals ironically enough if we're talking about the Simmons deal on their practice squad then 21 he spends 14 days with the Saints in their practice go out before getting cut with if that's not a You've Lost That sign I don't know what is you spend 14 days and you get cut um yeah so he hasn't played in the game since 2019 he decided it was time and I'm kind of curious what giant fans are going to look back in his career and think of as far as him as a player because I'll tell you this I think that he was a good pick overall because I think he was a solid corner I don't think he was an amazing corner but he was a solid corner almost reminds me of a more modern version of Felipe Sparks that's fair like you know like a really good number two corner he was never gonna be the number one corner in the NFL like people hope when he was an All-American in college but he's a solid number two Corner in the NFL for those years Jersey

Prince Ninja Turtle over here let's collected some dust in my closet I should I dusted off for this uh announcement should have but yeah congratulations on a great career Prince um you know glad to see that he thought so highly the Giants that he wanted to come back for a one day contract like that and do it that way uh classy move by the Giants organization to you know let ahead let it go ahead and let a player who hasn't let's begin has a party with us since 2016. and they still went and did that again that's what we're talking about the classy moves that the Giants organization does they may be crappy to the fans of time and get his free medium Cokes but but they do right by the players and that stuff matters if you don't think players don't pick up on this stuff and go wow like this guy hasn't played with them in seven years and they still you know wanted to salute him on his retirement his way out and then he wanted to be saluted as a giant the way out if you don't think that other players pick up on that you're kidding yourself I'm telling you how that matters that matters I mean if you you talk to any job recruiter they're going to tell you the number one reason why people quit the jobs is the bosses so when you come back to your boss say I want to retire like congratulations work for the average Joe I can't go back to my first job like hey don't retired with your company thanks yeah I'd like to retire with Kmart as a cashier that was my first job the old Kmart there on Route 35 and Haslet obviously no longer there what is there now I forget they moved something else there I think Aldi's moved over there now you're getting yourself so yeah all these was were half bark used to be okay um it was um the frozen Coke Factory Burlington Coat Factory move there okay and they're more than breakouts their God oh they're gone too what the hell now it's a Sky Zone is it Sky Zone now every time I go back one of those jump places they're actually in the middle of redoing the whole parking lot every time I go back home things are so much different things in a few years but yeah it's gonna stop just going entirely all right let's break it down now break it down

um so let's get into it here we're obviously going to start with quarterback and make our way down uh we are going to go ahead and do it similar to how the Giants have the depth chart now on their roster um because can I make the bullets prediction you can unless your bold prediction of that will end up with 53 people because that's not so bold Daniel Jones makes the squad oh we're gonna find out before we get into this we're gonna go over some comments uh Raphael El Capitan here says hello I'm before the show's even on Connor says oh hello there Mr woodpecker I'm not sure what the Woodpecker comment was that big ass nose what was that oh he's calling you a woodpecker because you're schnoz okay he says if you're not first you're last yes oh yeah Ricky Bobby if I wanted to raid what's this I would have named him Dr Quinn and Medicine Woman damn it um Connor says so how we fix his own deficiency simple you work around it don't put him in his own he's had enough years to show you if he's good at it he sucks I mean look at last year did we play did we put any players on tension and bad positions to their account you know we've played up to their strengths now I feel like and this is going to come off potentially wrong but I'm gonna say anyway because everybody knows me says that I don't give a damn I just kind of Jersey just kind of spits out you know like it is what it is I'm not saying he's dumb let me get that off the bat right now but I feel like he is a player who depends on his athletic skills as opposed to his football IQ

there's nothing wrong with saying that listen you could be a great athlete in the NFL with a low football IQ and I think that's what he is honestly and like I said I I've never talked to the man never even really see much of an interview with him so I'm not going to sit here and say he's dumb in general but I know that's not what I mean but when you have issues with things like Zone

and reading plays and stuff like that some of the stuff you see when you watch on tape it tells you he's depending on his athleticism which is very impressive athleticism but he's depending on that that's why he's better at man because he can just follow stick to the guy exactly it's much easier it's much less you know mental you know figuring out the play as it goes kind of situation when you're playing Zone and knock knock Zone players like normally it's the opposite You're athletic obviously you're in the NFL but you're not as athletic like but you could protect you could pick up plays understand what the QB is trying to do understand what the Lion's trying to do and understand how the rats are running out and you can predict where to be and how to be there at a certain time and that's what makes a great Zone player yes it makes a great man coverage guy is being able to stick to them like white rice yep I think he can do that yeah and it's not to knock anyone there but that's just what you have to do like so sometimes I say I just know one person's gonna read or wrong what I'm saying and like I said I'm not trying to say he's an idiot I'm not saying that what I'm saying is I think he's sober to react it's lower to Nowhere to be based on the play than some other players I've seen so I think he depends on his athleticism and we need to make that that strength of his something that we hone at that point it's his football Accused by the way are the both of ours put together oh yeah he's not saying much trust me but yeah these goofballs

I I think they were born with the names I don't think they changed the names or did anything crazy to become you know football Giants there but kind of says stupid is stupid us what's oh stupid is what stupid does life is like a box of chocolates you never know what you're gonna get it's funny how you can't even read that without putting a little Accent on all right [Music] let's get into the positions here so quarterback position here so the big questions Mark's been you know is Tommy DeVito shown enough to be a third quarterback on this team and I think he's definitely played above what you and I expected in preseason at least given the first two games so the question comes to the biggest how many quarterbacks do we carry now this I know some people are talking about the emergency quarterback option I want to make sure everybody's aware of the rules that's a new rule now because of the crybaby 49ers I mean what we used to have the same role in the football years ago but what the rule is is you're allowed to have an emergency quarterback the emergency quarterback is somebody that has to be a member of your 53-man roster but doesn't suit up for the game it cannot be a practice squad call-up it has to be someone that's on your active roster and if hypothetically one of your two quarterbacks that are injured in the game that call probably to call in the emergency quarterback if one of those two guys get healthy enough to play your emergency quarterback has to get off the field and never show this step step up in the field again unless you run into quarterbacks again like let's say Daniel Jones gets gets hurt and pulls a hamstring or something I don't know trying to use something that won't jinx us because he's never had hamstring issues and let's say Tyra Taylor comes in and has a concussion now and has to sit out for a couple of plays while they're looking at him well now an emergency quarterback can come in but let's say a tie Rod's clear to come back then that emergency quarterback is off the field and can't go back on the field again as long as one of the two quarterbacks is still available

and then he's allowed to come back on that's actually written in the rule so that is written in the rule for those scenarios they're very very you know specific on what you can and cannot do in those scenarios so anyway on to the quarterback issue so obviously Daniel Jones is getting cut

Daniel Jones obviously will be there Tyrod Taylor is obviously her best backup so he'll be there I was torn on a Tommy DeVito thing I really was in the end I I want to try to sneak him onto the practice squad and hopefully we don't ever need an emergency quarterback but let's be honest here we need an emergency quarterback we're probably not going to win as it is correct and also like we had that scenario happen to us we did against the Bears yeah we had our emergency quarterback as our star running back yeah and we won the game we won the game yeah when that game that's how I was trying to get at I'm just like you would think possibly they might look at keeping a third string quarterback maybe but there's a lot of other issues that's going on the field that we need to address and we'll talk that further down the line so I just said like listen if we had healthy people that we could rely on foreign starters and know with less questions and what's going on you might be able to make more of a definitive answer without that being said you can't and I I just got to make the squad yeah like I said it doesn't shock me if he makes it and I'm not going to be upset if he makes it but I do think that that's what's going to happen is we're gonna try to put them on the practice squad because I don't think he played that well the same teams like I need me some Tommy DeVito over here yeah and at the same time like that roster spot could be way more available

that roster spot to be way more available to someone else yes with a lineman another another D-Back you know that kind of thing yeah all right or another running back perhaps let's talk about running backs ooh Segway they're not just rotting around towns

um saquon Barkley I think it's safe to say he's gonna make it I think I mean I don't know I didn't see him

I didn't see any hype on this guy I know who knows we'll see what he can do off-season these camps here I don't know about the sparkly guy uh Matt Brady I think that's pretty obvious in that Brady will also play he is the only backup running back that I actually have any confidence in at this point in the roster I'll put it that way it's true um here's where Rob and I are gonna potentially disagree a little bit here let's switch around let's do this guy last okay well to this guy last then but we disagree on two people so we'll see what happens Eric gray we're gonna get into then we'll skip the other guy here for a second Eric gray is gonna make the roster he's a rookie they gotta see what they got in him there's then it looks like they want to use them on special teams so yeah he's he's gonna make the roster for that reason uh I have mixed feelings about it because he's a rookie and I want to give up on it from what I've seen I'm not impressed at all but it's also a rookie in all seasons and that's why I'm saying I'm not ready to give up on him because he's a rookie but so far it's not a good start not a good start yeah um like you said he pretty much he's going to be the returner the punt returner specifically um James Robinson gone bye-bye bye-bye here's where you and I disagree so let me uh go ahead we dive into this I want to be able to be clear this is about as I I do not believe I'll do the wave the sign language for a boat if you will if you're out there and podcast that so who actually does do it that's fantastic oh yes we're announcing the season starts like what we think what the roster is going to be week one Chris this is going to change by week four by week eight things are going to change inquiries are gonna happen everything's gonna get moved around

this is how I think we start season I think right well doesn't make the team injuries I think gray is going to be taking his returns which he was doing last year primary and I think Corbin will be making that roster because out of all the guys this off-season that actually ran the ball in the back flip he probably looked the best

so if you want to give guys a shot to do with the guy I do we saw what we had in Brightwell he's fighting man practice squad four now not saying that he can't come back later we have breaking news Rob

um you got the moves like Jagger so the disagreement we have is Brightwell and Corbin so here's my my thing I think the big issue for me is I'm looking at where Brightwell is they've been kind of ambiguous and what his injury has been but he's also not been put on the pup we still have a couple weeks before the season starts I'm running under the assumption he would be able to play week one I don't know that I can only go with the information I have but I think if they didn't think that he can come back at any time they would have put him on the pup list now knowing they can take him off before the season begins so because of that because of that is why I'm saying Gary Brightwell will be on the roster he's also got the Special Teams ability we know special team's been an issue for the Giants even this preseason already so I think he does there go there and I think Corbin they try to sneak onto the practice squad again and I'm not so sure that he makes it through to the practice squad somebody doesn't scoop them up to be very Frank I think Corbin actually outplayed Eric gray in this preseason but you're not going to get rid of a rookie you just drafted yeah well I legit also agree with you that but I said he was the best running back we had this past awesome through the camps like he's the best around at the backup position but and I I think you and I agree but disagree at the same point because you're you're we agree on the on what's going to happen overall it's just work you and I are both predicting differently just if Gary pray will be ready for the start of the Season it sounds like pretty much like and also like if he doesn't want a puppy like he's not 100 for week one like

they like yeah he might not make the roster week one like he might he may come back because how long is it for pop right six weeks I think yes the first six weeks you're out if you're on the pub yeah so he comes back he's ready for week four

week four I was saying like he's Alex week seven if he's if he's going to be ready for week four like what do you do yeah oh and I I got you okay okay yeah I mean like I said I I just think he's I think that the Giants would have already put him on the pup if it was always gonna be that long term I think he's already been out longer than they thought he would be I'm even curious to see if he plays against the Jets I haven't heard anything yay or nay on that but like I said I'm looking at it from that perspective uh because of that I think he'll be ready to go and we'll see and if he's not I agree with you 100 I would put Corbin in there still I still want a fourth running back because I I think in the end you can't keep running the ball like we did last year just kill Barkley yeah I mean we've talked about this all off season and pretty much just in Dead season that I think there's gonna be a Last Dance live a lot of schemes that John's gonna do with fire Titans a lot of running backs gonna mix and match play up to different types of running back strengths different types of tight end strengths and you know which are obviously what's your required receivers in there and there's gonna be a lot of misplay s going on where the defense is going to produce oh yeah 22 setup fantastic this team is going to arrive off that time to confuse oh yeah all right let's get on to the wide receivers because that's the I think that's the most crazy group that we have right now that everybody's like oh my God what's going to happen loose what's going to happen here um so first off Isaiah Hodgins keeper 100. Paris Campbell keeper okay yeah Darius Slayton keeper we just paid the man Hyatt keeper just drafted man here's where we get to now somewhere we might have disagreements Cole Beasley keeper I I'm in the air I have but I do I can feel it coming in the air tonight

so we're very lonely [Laughter]

I think I think if he's healthy and that's another thing too we go into that conversation he didn't dress at all for the last game but I think it's very telling that you notice where he was the whole game he was with the quarterbacks going over the place going over the offense easily he's a professional he is made a career at being a fantastic white group yeah which is kind of going to be his role if not a great wife for I said he's gonna be four or five at this point but you know he also knows how dable operates he he's picking up on the system fast

I think there's a strong argument that he makes his team said I'm at Oregon I'm flat out saying it he's going to make the team he's going to make the team uh next up this is a point of contention really for some people Sterling Shepard I have him making the team

and I think he's on there for two reasons the veteran leadership and because of the history with the franchise I really think that's that makes a difference and I think you're gonna see him use less than he's been in past years and I think that's not even a a statement on his abilities as much as they they want to keep him healthy because to be honest he can't stay healthy yeah I mean I want to take more of a diverse stance like I I do think he makes his team by the hair of his teeth listen I don't disagree with you on that I think I think it's going to be a tough battle for him to make a team but I don't screwed with you he makes his team because what he can do for this offense not only with his place but his leadership and his football IQ I think each of the youngins I think part of the equation also how many receivers we talk about keeping so we've already gone over six now we have one more on my list that's seven there's no guarantee we keep seven receivers yeah and we don't agree on the south effect so yeah so next up

I think Calvin Johnson makes a team because we have a player in the wide receiving room that's most likely you start on a pop yes and I have that with well I'm with you on that part there Johnson makes the roster because he he he's looked good this off season didn't look great

but he's also be asking other people I just I don't know I guess you know me from the gecko I've never been a Colin Johnson hype guy I don't know I don't like the hype I think it's overplayed I I I mean I agree with you I'll give you this this is this is his one Saving Grace if you look at the guys we've talked about so far Hodgins outside guy Campbell inside guy slayden outside guy then Hyatt inside Beasley inside Shepherd inside or outside but better inside there's a lot of slot receivers Colin Johnson is one of the few backups that plays well primarily on the outside if he makes the roster that's the reason he makes the roster I agree so Grant the guy that's going to be at bus probably not an outside guy but no all right way more tough no offense next up Jameson Crowder New England this is this is where we disagree I have him making the roster as opposed to Colin Johnson I think he's a Savvy veteran I think he showed up already clutch and a few that are Downs during the preseason I think he's a better player than Colin Johnson is and I think in the end the Giants are going to keep whoever the best players are and not care about we just talked about a moment ago inside outside whatever they'll move people around where they got to move people around watch Paul or even be on the outside sometimes they'll move around who they got to move around do what they got to do I don't I don't think they're gonna go based on the size and based on the position at that point I think they're going to pick the best wide receivers and I think Jamison Crowder is a Savvy veteran who's a whole lot better in my opinion than Colin Johnson and I think he makes the roster police temporarily because we'll talk about that the minute we talked about the pup guy there he might be the guy cut when the pup guy comes off but we'll get to the puppets at the end the pups are at the end Everyone likes a good pup puppies so

Bryce Ford Whedon here and I know a lot of fans are excited because he makes the occasional exciting play he also drops some obvious plays he I think he's got potential to eventually become an NFL receiver I don't think it's there right now and I think he needs a year or so of learning from the coaches and showing he is coachable before I'm comfortable putting this man on an active NFL roster so I don't want him on the roster I don't think he makes the roster but I do think the Giants will try to put him on the practice squad whether or not somebody else Scoops him up to put him on their active roster we'd have to find out but he's the guy that if we lose I'm not like oh my God nobody lost price for his Wheaton like yeah but I think I said given some time I think he could develop into a bottom and wide receiver in this league and that's really bad like that but I don't think he'll ever be a Top Flight receiver I really just don't but I think he'll be potentially a bottom end receiver given a year or two of grooming there and you know some coaching up there listen players make their career yeah Mr Beasley yeah well Beasley's not he Beasley's a bit mid-flight you submit flight he said 900 receiving Seasons I don't think I don't think before Wheaton will ever hit that I think if he's lucky he gets two to four hundred a year yeah we'll see so next up Jaden mickens

all right it's gonna change things a little bit they definitely have picked up a lot of more uh Speedy guys that could run route because my big thing too with him that makes me think I agree with you other situations that he's like the Walmart version of dialogue yes 100 he's the wish version of Waller I mean he's a very good receiver he was a receiver keep in mind they moved him to tight end when he's with the Jets he's still learning to be a tight end yeah it's an idea blocker he's a great backup for a while they're just they kind of play similar he's not going to do it while it can do but when you try to misplace like and you line up Waller and cager it's kind of obvious what we're doing here yeah and like I said I think I I think he's the guy that the Giants have respect for so why do you think they want to keep him in house but I don't know if it earns him a roster I feel like him that much yeah so I mean if they keep him they're probably keeping poor you're probably writing that um next up the medical mystery we talked about him yesterday Tommy Sweeney so for those who may have missed what's going on in giant's land Tommy Sweeney had a medical incident yesterday at practice uh was taken off the field taken in for medical attention it's definitely something bigger but they're not giving us a heads up as to what uh David was actually asked about it today uh during the the presser as well when he's talking about Simmons as Conor asked any word on Sweeney uh they said Sweeney was in the building today now the key thing is he said he was in the building so what that means is he was in and back out and why that sounds like a weird thing to pinpoint what that tells you is he's mobile and he's not on bed rest and he's not stuck in a hospital like he's most he's in motion he's doing things so that's a good sign I would think yes and what also her too is he was caught off the field yesterday but he was not taken to a hospital yeah and he was speaking and there's you know yeah so whatever the mishap was wasn't life-threatening

yeah yeah I'll pretty much agree like I think he just outweighs maybe one person here but that's not so old uh next up Matt perk who those who listen to the show on a regular basis no we're not fans of but so far from what they say he has played the best in practice um they've all play like poop in the preseason but if that's your best player that obviously is going to make the team yep so your swing tackle Matt perp or I will get a caveat with this stuff here we're doing this as if we're not picking up players that get dropped by their teams and obviously some people are going to get picked up by the team from other teams this is a position the backup offensive line that I do expect one or two names to get picked up you're probably right it's a very safe bet I think so we're kind of doing this in tongue-in-cheek to a certain degree because I don't think math pert will be the swing tackle I think we'll get somebody but I can't predict who and I can't predict that that's definitely going to happen I have to work what we got next up Tyree Phillips I also have him making the roster and I think part of it is because this versatility plays tackle and guard we love versatile players he's also played some last year it didn't look horrendous so it's a really great thing he didn't look horrendous yeah you didn't embarrass yourself that much yeah could have been better but could have been worse

oh yeah it's bad uh Marcus mckeithan now what's weird about Marcus mckeithan is I think of him always as a guard because that's what he you know was drafted as he primarily saw him last year at the Giants actually have him as a tackle on the depth chart I think only purely because of the fact they just drafted him last year that he will make the roster I haven't seen anything from him and I go oh this guy has some Talent but I think he'll make it because the fact he was just drafted last year by this regime that is cheap oh yeah all these guys are cheap let's be very Frank of that all of them are cheap so that gets us four backups that's nine offensive lineman already so it's pretty safe to say that you guys know it's coming the rest of this yeah um Julian Davenport bye-bye but I wouldn't mind having him potentially on the practice squad even though he's a little up there in years for what you consider for practice squad he has a decent amount of starting experience for a backup for that reason I wouldn't mind keeping him around the building um the rest of them

again potentially goodbye Jack Anderson goodbye Sean yeah Lemieux Davis Anderson Harlow all gone all gone never to be seen from again no the one person I put on and I put these guys in in red is gone Jack Anderson is the one guy that wouldn't shock me if they try to hold on to him a little bit I think the regime likes him uh he's also got a little bit of Versatility but he hasn't shown him this year and I I like having younger guys on on the practice squad I like people with potential to be in the practice squad and yeah that's not Jack Anderson I think we know what he is by now yeah not so good

I'll say it that way I'm not saying they're all good I'm just saying I don't I doubt that receiving core is the average less than 400 yards we'll see

all right on to the defensive line obviously sexy dexy Leonard Williams a Sean Robinson and Rakim nunes-roaches all make the roster because those are guys that we have signed to Big Money we're not going to let them go we just lose money by cutting them ain't gonna happen so we'll get those right out of the way the backups you got a lot of guys this position we talked about this the Giants are just stacking up at this at this position here so next up is the seventh round pick Jordan Riley who has been shocking people with how good he's played in Baltimore practice end of the preseason yeah so this is the guy I was going to say I don't think he's Tiki Barber good but I think he's going to be the guy that's going to shock a lot of people this season about how how much would a steal of what he was I'm not saying he's gonna be the best defensive flyer than ever like let's say he's the best guy on defense I'm not going to say he makes the top half of it I think from where we got him his expectations he's gonna out perform what he's expected to do I think he is a one-dimensional player who that one dimension is much better than what you should expect from a seventh round pick I don't think he's gonna be a pass rusher I think he's going to be a clog the whole run blocking nose tackle kind of guy yeah and again that's that's a good thing if you're getting somebody who's got a got one well even if it's a one-trick pony it's a hell of a trick and he's a seventh round pick that's a damn good pick yeah because most seven round picks are no trick ponies

listen Bruce Lee fancy said Don't Fear The Man in those ten thousand punches if you're the man that knows well punches to practice ten thousand times okay well he said but I think I think you'll see Riley on the make the team I think he'll be a backup uh I think you'll see him pop in during go line stances you know third down one that kind of scenario I think that's where that'll be his home and that'll probably be his home for his NFL career unless he develops any kind of pass rush which is never know he is 25 years old so he's a little late to the program here but at the same point he's also looks like it doesn't have a great coaching yet and work on it I hate to like blast the college program that I don't know anything about really because I don't you know don't know much of the Ducks there but yeah for a guy to give him a seventh round pick none of you get invited the combine and do this yeah he's already already you know proved to be better than the seventh round pick should be so yeah next up Ryder Anderson and I do to have him making the roster yet again I I we see him I'm not happy I'm gonna put it that way bottom level guy that you know is there for emergencies and that's it pretty much so the rest of them I think we can end some of the suspense because none of them are really people I think that anybody will clamor for or fight for all gone Kevin Atkins Brandon Brian Donovan Jeter Kobe Smith bye bye bye bye bye um on to the edge in defensive ends the pass rushers obviously Kayvon Thibodeaux makes it obviously Aziz ogilari makes it obviously Jihad Ward makes it now we get into the ones that may or may not the backups because I'm kind of including Jihad Ward tonight because they play him enough that he's like a third starter at the position on his two spots yeah the truth um oh Shane Simmons I think a lot of us were pretty shocked when they brought him back for a fifth season obviously they didn't bring him back for any significant money and I think we're gonna be very grateful that when we cut his ass on Tuesday strong strong possibility that happens he's not good he's not good he's yeah yeah no I mean this next guy is disappointing through himself free

this next guy he's done well this officers and I shouldn't say he's a proven starting to sleep because he's not but he's a better player the next guy which is Simone Fox and fox is a better player than is Eminem says he's better all around he gets the he gets the team going with big hits he seems to come up during opportune times Fox is definitely the better of the the two but I think Fox is probably to be number four in that Roomba besides the three starters we talk about there again award as a starter because they like to play him all over the place quite often even though he's not really a starter um next up to Sean Bauer

he's the guy that I don't have making this roster but he's a guy wouldn't mind having on the practice squad he's you know he's still young he's still got you know some potential to potentially develop into something in this league here uh you know but I don't have a high ceiling because when I say still young he is 28 years old it's not like he's 23 you know or 22 or something like that he's got a little bit of starting experience got a little bit of playing experience overall and you want to have an edge guy on your practice squad and I'm definitely going to pick him over jiminus

habakkuk baldonado the Italian Wonder you don't see anything but I have him making the roster I have him being the fifth Edge you know guy to have I think he has shown a little bit of something uh I think that he's not a guy I expect to see in the field very often he probably a guy might have been suit up even some weeks but I have him making the roster being the very last guy from that edge defensive end position I have a football in between it's Einstein and uh Bauer so I just I just think the age is the big difference and baldonado especially last last game showed something granted it was against backups as well but you know he definitely showed something here had one sack taken away from penalty another one actually became official he he showed something I think what happens with the Jets this week it's gonna Benny and the Jets Danny wasn't he English singing that wait a minute I don't know um onto the linebackers because as John says here in the comments section holy crap it's 10 23. we had a lot to go over this one here uh obviously okay makes a team obviously Simmons makes the team we just traded for the guy obviously beavers makes a team obviously McFadden makes a team those four I think nobody will question whatsoever

the big question is how many linebackers do we keep and I'll be very Frank and tell you guys I have a lower number than I think most people will have in this because I'm looking at from the perspective of we have people that I think can play linebacker that aren't linebackers safeties that can come down and play the linebacker position even a guy like I think Jihad War could slide in to play it play that the linebacker position if need be I don't think we need to keep as many linebackers as we've been keeping because we've been keeping people that quite frankly play special teams and that's it yeah so it's not even keeping them and playing him in the defensive rotating players in and out that's not the case so Carter Coughlin the cutter Coughlin experiment is over in my opinion he is what he is he started I was an edge member from seventh round pick from Minnesota moved him into linebacker he's been good on special teams hasn't done anything otherwise I'm tired of keeping people just for special teams

he probably would have been a starter

but you know it's just like I can't I I can't say it's definitely not gonna happen because I do think I'm giving a little number on linebackers than most people will and I do think they value special teams it's a matter of how much do they trust the other guys we've already talked about and the guys we will talk about to fill out the special teams and like I said I just I can't I can't keep a guy in the roster anymore for three or four special teams tackles a year I'm sorry I can't you got to provide something on the events too or be like a pro bowl caliber special teamer and he's not so Carter Coughlin gotta go and if you want you can just rewind the tape and we'll talk about cam Brown same thing I'm done I'm done and you know the only way I I think they keep him is if they think he's the Gunner because I know they're all his headset and this Gunner for the Special Teams because apparently that's been the Scottish hammers problem not that he sucks um Deontay Johnson I don't think he makes the roster but I do think he's a guy that you're gonna see them try to keep on the practice squad I I think he's a young guy they'll try to keep for that reason Ray Wilborn gone bye-bye he's done bored bye bye onto the corners we're determined to finish this before 11 o'clock

um Amani awarie I have him making the roster I have him breaking the very bottom end of the roster though I don't think this is a guy you really want to see but he's got a starting experience he's there's not a lot of guys that have started experience in this roster uh I would not be shocked at all if the Giants pick somebody up on the waiver wire and he takes his spot because I've just he's done nothing to impress us that's for damn sure um I don't know why why are you going all bug High there I did for John okay uh Jamal Green I don't think he makes the roster I don't mind keeping him on the practice squad great Darren Evans don't think he makes the roster but I don't mind seeing him in the practice squad

uh Butterfingers Gilbert I mean Zion Gilbert yeah

he dropped two freaking interceptions in the fourth quarter last week alone he's not good we've seen it already like he's like Bart Simpson and the the mid 1990s on to the XFL Zion on to the XFL uh alrighty on to the safeties this was a difficult one I gotta say this was the difficult one um so yeah as as handling me one two three says why are you guys the only two people here because we're the only co-host she was in the title it is it is we'll have to change it if you could actually be extra that would be way too much on the marketing team that doesn't exist three times I think it only happens five percent of the time yes that's not less we've had guests on but yeah yeah um all right under the safeties Xavier McKinney Jason Pinnock obviously they make it yep the rest is where people start questioning these things um I will give you heads up on this part guys though keep in mind I got five five corners so what does that tell you I might be looking for people who can play corner from the safety position so Dean Belton I have him making the roster Nick the cloud I have him making the roster there can be only one here we are um I think I think part of it is because he's a hybrid he can play corner he can play safety I also have Bobby McCain making the roster now this is a spot that I'm torn on to be very Frank with you

I'm really really torn on um I think that the the big issue that I have here is that I like the next person we're going to talk about here a lot and I think he has a lot of potential so I want to see what happens with him and I don't want to risk losing him by trying to put him on the practice squad so I'm perfectly fine if the Giants don't keep McCain and go with the next guy instead for that reason

but the next guy is to various Owens and I just don't know if he's showing me enough in the preseason for me to put him above McCain who has a lot of experience I feel like you got higher uh ceiling with Owens I I agree with you and that's why I'm saying I'm okay with it personally if they do that but if they go purely based on talent I think McCain will still beat out Owens by it by a slight so if we're talking week one we can't find any good but the season start at the year

is he bought that 53-man roster about that yeah so javerius Owens I'm thinking practice squad but I'm thinking 50 50 whether it's him or McCain and McCain will make the practice squad he'll just be cut yeah so that's a that's a flip of a coin for me uh Alex Cook I don't think makes the team I think Alex Cook though is another guy that you could see potentially on the practice squad another young guy give him a chance to see if he develops into something here for us onto the special teams oh special

Graham Gano obviously makes the Team MVP Jamie Gillen obviously makes a team Casey Kreider obviously makes a team I don't even go into like the scrub they have as a second Long Snapper and all that stuff right now we know who's making the team on that so that's our 53 and we have two players that will be starting this season on the pup Robinson

and Aaron Robinson both Robinsons end up on the pub Meet the Robinsons

notice that I and I think that's a decent Squad it's a hell of a lot better of a squad that we had last year that's for sure you know um I think we have a couple of spots still that need to get improved on we talked about it already with potentially a corner potentially you know backup offensive line and I think Joe Shane's not done I think Joe Shane will keep on trying to go ahead and figure out you know how we can go ahead and improve this roster and it wouldn't shock me at all if some of the guys we talked about that are kind of borderline even maybe they could make some calls out this weekend and maybe make a trade but I think that's going to be their 53-man roster there for you guys uh but we'll find out Tuesday how right we are and how wrong we are because we will keep this list going and we'll see what happens there and kind of compare when we do have the actual um you know roster final final roster and see where it ends up so again guys we'll see you uh after the game next week Monday we'll be doing our post game reaction shows the final one and then Tuesday we'll do our show instead of Wednesday because of the fact that we're going to go over the final 53-man roster there uh of course we're always live on Facebook YouTube Twitter twitch and Rob's favorite my LinkedIn profile oh yes my LinkedIn profile will rob just loves that LinkedIn profile um I know I know you did and then of course we're on on uh you know all the audio podcast platforms usually about an hour or two after work done here it takes just a second for me to convert that over to audio file and get that up for you guys uh Apple podcast Spotify uh I Heart Radio uh Amazon all the big ones there of course uh so again guys if you haven't already do us a favor hit the like hit the Subscribe hit the share because like I said the schedule is going to start changing here because things are still keep popping and as they pop they will change so we'll be back on as of right now we're back on Monday to go over the Jets game we'll be back on Tuesday to go ahead and do the final 53-man roster show and then after that depends on how things go when we pop back on we will do a third show we always do but Wednesday Thursday I don't know we'll see what happens it depends on how moves go uh I'm keeping that open for us because of the fact that I keep in mind guys like I said Tuesday's a cut day Wednesday Thursday could be days we pick up new players so we want to give you guys a heads up on that so we're kind of leaving that open for now and then the week after that guess what it's time for real football
