Tommy G the Host of SI Giants Country's Tommy's Takes join Rob & Drew to discuss the Giants running backs. We cover every RB including Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell. Obviously most of the conversation will revolve around Saquon Barkley. Do we resign him? Can we count on Saquon to stay healthy for the Giants? Can we afford to keep Barkely? Plus Tommy gives us some running backs to keep an eye out in the draft.

doing great fellas thank you for having me on the show off season is starting to heat up finally got a lot to talk about yeah this is that fun time of the year where rumors are flying you don't know what's true because you know what else flies it's not just rumors it's the same thing you see you flying around at the zoo it's some poo and that's what we call dude it's it's been flying all over the place and I'm sure you guys heard carton talking today on on the fan about how he thinks the whole Jones rumor is made up by his old agency I don't know who made it up but I'm still sticking to I ain't believing a damn thing until Jones says it or somebody within the Giants organization says it until then it's all Bs folks it's all BS so we gotta start off here with some Giants news here we got a lot a little bit of tidbits here that came up in the last couple days I want to catch you got back on here so first off we already went over a couple episodes ago some free agent targets for us this off season and you guys didn't see that go back and hit the rewind button on the last couple episodes it is there we talked about a lot of different linebackers and this linebacker Market is getting saturated it's perspiring it's like pouring all over the place here there are linebackers as far as the eye can see if Jaylen Smith is our linebacker next year folks we messed up royally wrong happened something really bad so just today Bobby Wagner nine-time pro bowler six-time All-Pro 140 tackles last year gets cut by the Rams after signing a contract last offseason just make it a one year there so he's 32 obviously a little bit older there but hey it's a stop Gap guy for a couple years might not be a bad option to look at uh just yesterday the Tennessee Titans also released Zach Cunningham who has some injury issues last year but a little younger 28 years old led the entire NFL and tackles in 2020 back when he was a Texan anybody doing anything decent in Houston got to be taken with that much extra level because when you're surrounded by more things that are flying around so poo yeah I think you do good that's like that's like 10 times better if you run anybody else's team because you have nobody around you so you know that's that's a great thing there so I'm loving to see that that market getting more and more saturated as we go we also got some coaching news I know we talked about all this being this off season about all these differing the looks here for our our coordinators as potential head coaches again thank you we get to keep our guys for at least one more year uh but we do got some former giants that are taking jobs around the league here you got a former giant Anthony Curry announces the linebacker coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers former giant Chase Blackburn who is a favorite of mine back in the day congratulations for the Rams yeah dog great guy that's that was that guy that I like played 100 heart right that guy would have gone to the field with like missing like both legs and just rolling around a cart he was that guy like he's just it's amazing

it is but a flesh wound unless I never could forget that interception in 2011 in the Super Bowl when he Out jumped Gronkowski deep down the field and he snagged that man what a play that was oh yeah oh yeah that's like one of the Forgotten plays of that Super Bowl everybody always wants to talk about the catches in both those Eli Super Bowls it wasn't just those catches folks there was a lot of things that happened to make the magic happen for us there uh we also had breaking news today here Davis Webb is officially been hired as the QB coach Broncos yeah so a Davis whip playing days are officially over he leaves this one touchdown pass to the one touchdown reception Kenny Gallade

so what's interesting too is Jordan Ronan talked about the fact that apparently he was actually waiting to see what happened with Mike Kafka before he actually went ahead and looked Elsewhere for a job so kudos to that guy that's some loyalty and don't get me wrong it's not loyaltyness to the Giants but a loyalty to do dable and his team there so you know I'll take that and you know hope nothing but the best for that guy he's got a bright future if you listen to guys around the league he's the guy to watch in a couple years to be potentially even a head coach he's got that kind of outlook for his career uh and obviously if he's going to be able to fix Russell Wilson that's going to be a great way to get to that next level at that point you listen you even make Russell Wilson an average Quarterback after last year you're probably gonna looks as an OC in a year or two so you're gonna have to well what he's getting paid you're gonna have to work that thing out he's not going anywhere You Gotta Be You got to make the best out of that one and he gets to also learn behind yeah

also former Giants coach Sean Payton gotta make that mention too former giant uh we also had a almost lost someone on our staff there so special team assistant coach Anthony blevin got an interview with the Browns for their team it's too costly wow yeah so luckily uh he did not go there so we didn't get that job so because I'm gonna keep an eye on to see if he gets more interviews and gets certain more looks there we did lose one guy though DeAndre Smith left New York Giants for the same exact job at Indianapolis for their running backs so interesting because today we're going to talk all about the running backs of the past year and kind of our Outlook and everything there so a nice little segue there uh but we did already hire a new running backs coach just right before we started shooting here so uh Giants just hired Jeff Nixon as their running batch coach spent the last year as the assistant head coach for the Carolina Panthers last two seasons before that he was the running back coach for the Panthers as well was actually their interim OC when Joe Webb got fired last year as well so we spent a whole time doing that now the interesting thing to me is he also has experience with dable he was his running batch coach when dable was an offensive coordinator in Miami back in 2011 and he actually stayed on the staff for four years after dable left because he's able to have that one year in Miami that went off to the Chiefs the next one so this is a guy that Dave has got experience with and he seems to like him obviously he wouldn't have brought him back on so as far as I'm concerned if David likes him if that's good enough for me they did a great job last year too three or three of the Panthers running backs averaged over 4.5 yards per carry so they put in that work they had four minutes he had Foreman looking like a old Pro running back so you know he was putting in some work so I'm excited about that higher oh yeah I mean who would have thought they lose Christian McCaffrey obviously they lost him to a trade they wanted to get rid of him right but the running game got better yeah absolutely and it makes you wonder into the topic we're going to talk about obviously tonight yeah I gotta stop the show for a minute you're on point with these Segways dude damn these Segways are coming unhappy man holy cow and just wait we wouldn't have been doing this since August give me a little more time get more seasoning here I have like a occasion dish here so we uh you know we're talking about a guy who went from Carolina that traded away their star running back and had a great season running the ball still after the fact to being our running backs coach now well we're talking about potentially losing our star running back at saquon Barkley so it makes you wonder if maybe this higher is they're now getting a guy also who has experience dealing with a team that's in transition from a star running back to more of a committee system like most of the league is doing nowadays like I said food for a thought there I don't know if that's what it is maybe not reading too much never know yeah I mean it just went down so this is we don't have much news besides the fact that I hired him and what his history is that's it so we'll have to see as time progresses here so but let's get right into that saquon Barkley contract because that's the big big big talk here so uh regular listeners of ours have gotten a pretty decent taste a little bit of what me and Rob's thoughts are so Tommy why don't you lead off there I'm curious what your thoughts are and what do you think's gonna listen he practices in the mirror for the past three hours

yeah so I mean listen this is a big one right everybody's talking about Daniel Jones Daniel Jones contract and rightfully so uh he's the quarterback of the New York football Giants this is a big one and um this is the thing every piece of data everything Analytical in regards to signing a running back over 25 years old tells you don't do it stay far away I mean if you even look into in past history you know you have examples like going all the way back to Todd Gurley right then you have what we just spoke about in McCaffrey they give him that huge deal couldn't wait to ship him out after that huge deal right Tennessee Titans you know they get they give Derrick Henry that huge contract he misses half of the 2021 season there's examples all over littered in the Veteran running back graveyard but to me this one's a little bit more complicated fellas because it's not just a dynamic running back I'm running back in his prime like it or not you know thanks to Dave gettleman say Juan Barkley is the face of the New York Giants right when there's a Prime Time game when there's a big game and you have that Marquee pitcher up there saquan Barkley's up there he's the star of the team so I think that complicates a little more uh but you know in my honest opinion where with this team is that it seems like paying a veteran running back that much money is almost a luxury you know it's it's not something that you know a team that's still in a full rebuild really should be taking a look at because they already turned down the the the um uh excuse me the uh 10 million dollars right they don't even want to tag them they don't even want to you know that's coming out as reports we don't know that 100 but I'd say 75 on that one but yeah right so they don't even want to put the tag on saquon Barkley so I think that's a bad sign I think what you heard in In the End season presser from Joe Shane he wasn't really given a lot when it came to Barclay it's a lot more positive when talking about Daniel Jones I personally think it's probably time to move on you know what I'm saying you got right well showed some flashes last year breeda showed some flashes in mop up Duty um you know maybe you take a guy I got a couple guys I'll discuss tonight in the draft but I just don't see a team in this position your quarterback is a free agent you got holes all through the roster you got a lot of In-House business to take care of you know whether it's Julian love you know you got Dexter Lawrence next year is going to need to get paid are you really going to commit 12 13 million dollars to a running back no you know and I hate to say it because listen Giants had the sixth best Russian attack last season right and huge reason for those nine plus nine wins plus one was saquan Barkley no he's Dynamic he had 114 yards two TDS combined into two playoff games you know there's one major weakness pass blocking he improved that was the one huge knock on him other than this one staying healthy and for the first time since his rookie year played a full season so that was huge you know you also look at the fact that okay so you bring Jones back you jettison Barclay you know he goes to Buffalo wherever he wants to go how much does that affect Daniel Jones not having his safety valve there not having the guy he's had by his side since his rookie year right you gotta also take that into account but you know if it were me and I was in Joe Shane's shoes anything over 11 and a half million I'm passing I'm moving on I'm spreading that money out you know get some more depth for the interior defensive line so you don't give up almost 600 yards rushing combined in two games to Philadelphia you don't get run out of a divisional playoff game I'm spreading that money out boys um so let me ask you this Rob as he talks about you know some of the guys doing some pretty good stuff in mop-up Duty uh you know obviously Matt Breda however still 4.1 yards Gary Brightwall 4.5 uh Barclay was 4.4 so I want to kind of hear your thoughts on what do you think would have happened if we didn't have Barclay do you think Matt Brady and Gary brightwill could have done not necessarily the same exact thing that Barclay did but maybe a reasonable facsimile at a whole lot cheaper of a price considering the fact that her yards per carry average as it is right now was pretty much dead on to where Barkley was

so you want me to take Barclay out of the equation of what we had last year with what we had going on with our team then I don't think they do what they did last year like they were the ma [ __ ] that's what they were they were able to spread the wealth around because Barkley was dynamic they were able to spread the wealth around because Berkeley was a dynamic that allowed Daniel Jones to throw the ball a lot of Daniel Jones to run the ball so when they had these guys in the back defenses didn't really put two cents on them because they're worried about Danny Jones Barkley and Danny Jones throwing the ball and that list of you know back attempt to it so like Brightwell and Brita like if you look a lot of the runs they had like a seven eight yard run and then like four three three one and that was all that for the game so they still finished the game with 24 yards you know four attempts five attempts and get the 20 you know that's four or five yards per game but that's about it so if you look at bright law what do you have Ryan he had what 220 yards on the year he had oop again in front of me actually 220 yards exactly on 54 carries 4.1 yeah so I mean I guess the question I would have is you know I heard you guys both mentioned a little bit as far as mop-up duty but at the same point we didn't have any blowout games so these guys were kind of more sprinkled in throughout the thing you know most of the most of the games I feel like except for a few I mean brightwell's best game

sorry it was about this game was when Barkley first got hurt and then he started going back and forth playing more Dynamic and then after that he really didn't do much I mean Brett like came in the fourth quarter of a lot of games and that's when he got his yards so yeah it's not the same when you're the start of the game but piggyback off you know what we said before if you could draft a young good you know running back in this draft and make him the starter these guys can still produce yeah and I'm with you on that I'm almost wondering if we picked up a guy who might be much cheaper even a free agency or sharp Penny perhaps coming off injury uh Devin Singletary who we know obviously has the bills connection there that we know Shane and David loved in their days up there in Buffalo get a guy like that a lot cheaper and then still obviously resign Matt Breda and then go ahead and maybe draft a guy in the mid round as well let them all go out and say listen best man gets the job I I think I think we'd save a lot of money I don't think we're gonna be missing as much as I think some people think as well I'm a big fan of the fact that it runs a lot of the running game is scheme based a lot of the running game is coaching and it's not to say that Barclay can't do things that the other guys that were talking about can't do because that's obvious that man is a physical freak of nature I wish I had half the quad muscles that man has you see that guy when he did that first pitch remember when he did first pitch at Yankee Stadium when he first got drafted ridiculous God he went to like throw the ball and I swear the force of him just putting his heel down I thought it was going to break the pitcher's mound it was Insanity like I just built like no other it's insane but you know if it's working that's a good point that you bring up about uh the offensive philosophy so doing some research into the running back position for the Giants and actually trying to look at this objectively really what happened last year was the coaching staff collectively saw in the preseason this offensive line is struggling a black guy is one-on-one they're really struggling so what do we do so the Giants come up with this idea we're gonna stick 11 personnel right we're going to have our tight end three receivers we're gonna have our running back and they they were the best running 11 personnel team why because it created lighter boxes with three receivers and a tight end now on the field that defense can't stack the Box they got to spread out and the Giants offensive line took advantage of several double teams now that's not to knock Barkley listen he's Dynamic he had you know Giants had 70 total explosive runs with Barkley back there not all him but he was a large chunk of that so that's gonna be hard to replace but when you have an offense and a philosophy a strategy the that's geared not necessarily towards the running back's talent but towards what the offense does collectively well you can replace that you can absolutely do that I wouldn't come back would just breathe in right well you know I thought they played well when they came in but I would go get somebody in the draft I have a couple good picks that I that I'll talk about later in the show but also what happens with the offensive line you know does the offensive line get better in in the off season do they pick somebody up or do we look at the same scenario in 2023 where it's like okay we're gonna run 11 personnel again because we're getting dominated up front because if it does change the offensive strategy it changes in my opinion what type of running back you need and what type of running back fits the system better because as is you want a quick running back you want a running back that has bursts because you are getting a lot of double teams up front and you want a guy that's going to shoot right in that hole you don't need a Bell cow running back you don't need a Derrick Henry running back because you're not going against those heavy fronts you're going against lighter boxes so that's a great point I I think that I think that's what this coaching staff does well they get the most out of their players because it's a philosophy and a system it's not okay we got 26 back there we're going to force it to them we're going to do what he wants what he likes what he could do best yes it's the best part but it's the team above all and that's why they were so successful in 2022 yeah yeah 100 I got another interesting name to throw at you guys I just thought of as this news of this new running back coach is just coming out now that's a foreman donta Foreman is a free agent oh the Panthers ties right with our new running back coach got the Panthers tie yeah he's got the same exact yards per carry that Barclay had last year obviously a different style he's more that north-south Runner obviously right right but it'd be interesting I just think to me we can sign a guy I think for like two three million dollars as like a guy to mix in there draft a guy like you mentioned as well and I think we got the running back by committee that may not be able to do individually everything Barclay can do but collectively could do most of what Barclay can do if that makes sense I have a name for you guys so I would like to get your opinion on uh Boston Scott from the Philadelphia Eagles you guys familiar with him I I've heard his name I actually heard yeah the Giant Killer

it's funny I was talking to a couple of my buddies who were down here because I'm down here in Florida I was talking a couple guys that are big Bucks fans and they were asking for things to bet on during the Giants game and I said bet on Boston Scott to get a touchdown against the uh the Giants in the playoffs he's like what why would you do that the guy never scored I'm like he scores every single time he plays this I don't know what it is 18.

I think it's like 14 against the Giants ridiculous man that's twofold if you sign him he helps the Giants and two you can't beat him let him join you

like that man has something else for us I don't know what it is but it's like who who hurts you point to the doll where the Giants hurts you yes oh [ __ ] it's like this guy I think like two-thirds of his career touchdowns are against us but it's like that's where the concern would be if we sign him he has no one to score on he can't score against us anymore his magic powers yeah unless he fumbles a lot now listen if he gets out of the division and goes somebody else we don't see as often I'm all for that don't get me wrong but he had no Boston Scott is not somebody I'd be interested in uh now a guy like David Montgomery from the Bears that might be interesting look at that point especially if the you know if Barclay ends up going to the Bears because that's one of the rumors I keep hearing about is that they want him no matter what the costs are basically you know and that's where the Giants said they come into an issue if we don't attack him and he goes to free agency I'm telling her right now kiss that man goodbye because someone is gonna pay him someone is going to pay him and they'll regret it in a couple of years don't get me wrong that's the running back contract way look at the Cowboys with it was Zeke right now and you know the rumor with him even is that if he doesn't take a pay cut with the Cowboys he'll be lucky to get league minimum next you know if his next contract that's how bad he's fallen from Grace sorry they asked barkling in the post and and the season presser how would you feel if the Giants tagged you you know how would that make you feel you know would you be upset and he said I think anybody would be up to tag so you also have the situation that if Shane does change his mind and say okay we'll tag him we'll dedicate 10 million right off the top to him this season does he sit out how does that affect him do you know maybe you get a tag and trade right there's a lot of different scenarios and I think the biggest key here is what happens with Daniel Jones first I think that that's the number one chip to fall I've been steadfast Twitter wherever I've talked I think these two are intertwined these two deals right I think if you let Jones walk your Terror this thing down you're saying okay we'll go get you know we'll either start tie rod or we'll go get us a cheap journeyman retool 2024 you got a few good quarterbacks coming out but if you bring Jones back and you can figure something out with Barkley you got the gang back together but I think that big chip is Jones I think that's going to be a big deciding factor because also if things go sideways with Jones you might have to franchise tag them right and even though Shane said he's not going to attack Barclay like you guys said in the beginning of the show you really can't put a lot of Merit in what you're hearing right now in the last month or so everything is smoke and mirrors everybody's posturing right everybody's jockeying for position everybody has their own narrative their own angle to it but I think Jones is that big chip and what happens when him is going to trickle down right to Barclays deal yeah and the only thing I want to say from this this off season so far that we've heard that I 100 believe is when Joe Shane accidentally slipped twice in his press conference saying that Daniel Jones will be a giant when he's saying that that's him saying point blank to the agents don't even bother talking to anybody else he's staying here I don't care what I have to do if I have to tag him he's staying that's basically what he's saying right there I agree because he's gonna look really foolish if we don't keep him after saying that twice and he knows that he's not dumb so it may just be his second off season but this guy's not stupid so he's not going to say something like that unless he's gonna say Point Blank this is the deal we want you to take this deal if you don't take this deal we're gonna tag you and then we're gonna work on a deal afterwards that's the options that's the option so I agree and they were and like you said Tommy they don't want to tag Barkley because they don't want to tie up eight I'm sorry 10 million dollars and what does that tell you right there if they don't want to tie up 10 million uh that's a bad sign dude to a guy who wants to get paid rumor is like 14 and a half 16 million yeah you don't want to you don't want to put him on 10 million guys good luck getting that contract yeah and that's part of why I'm talking the way I'm talking I don't mind keeping Barkley because in the end I let the GMS figure out their magic with the numbers it's the the cap we've talked about this numerous times the capsule BS but if they don't want him I can't force their hand it's pretty obvious to me they don't want them when they're saying things like I don't want to cap him at 10 million and he wants 14 and a half 16 million he's going for the money because he knows he's a running back you get one shot one shot at that money and every single one of us including all three of us here on this panel would take that money in a heartbeat somebody offers me 16 million dollars a year I don't care if I have to clean porta potties for a living I'm gonna find a way to make it happen I will make put that scrub brush in my hand the biggest smile on my mouth

if I gotta put a poop brush in my mouth to make 16 million dollars I probably would do it let's be honest this is some fear listen I feel like I did for three years yeah

35 uh yeah guaranteed yeah yeah I'll be like I'll be like freak out having the cat boom

so I mean

like you said before like there's a lot of posturing going on because during the Giants bye week they offered Barkley reportedly what 12 12 and a half million and he turned that down 12 and a half million years pay him more than 10. per year you got to keep that in mind so they could have had that that last year could have been 17 8 million 18 million dollars to bring the average up and that could have been a fugazi BS year at that point to make it sound better for him when he talks about it

that's the thing you know they don't want to dictate they don't want to dedicate 10 million off the top but if he would say hey I'll take 12 million a year I think Joe would do that he'd spread the money out right he'd backload some of it maybe throw a void gear in there just for the fun of it right spice it up pull the Howie Rosamond out but just taking that 10 million dollar nut right off the salary cap this year with the holes I don't blame Joe for not wanting to do it I really don't I'll tell you this I think that my personal opinion and and I could be wrong I don't know Joe Shane personally obviously but Joe Shane if you'd like to come on the show feel free to Giant goofballs.com we'd love to have you on that'd be the get of the off season are you kidding me hey bro like who who the hell did you bribe for that well we had pictures of Joe Shane hanging out with another woman that wasn't his wife in his mouth but I think personally I don't think Joe wants saquon back I really don't I think he wants to do more of a running back by committee like they did in Buffalo I think he doesn't care as much about that he wants saquon to leave where he can go hey we tried we offered him a contract so he's not the bad guy saquan took the money which I think most of us fan wise will go listen take the money we get it we understand and he'll get an insane contract somebody else and Joe shank like well we tried on to the next and listen let me say something real quick you know you're starting to see with with these contracts right start let's go with quarterbacks where it's almost not even worth it to have a valuable experienced veteran quarterback anymore right and it's getting almost to that point where running backs also if you look at the last nine Super Bowl winners the highest individual salary for any player 2.5 million aav for the Super Bowl winning running back so it's a contract problem because you just can't give 40 million to a middle of the pack quarterback you just can't give 15 million to any running back it seems like at this point for the year because it just kills that roster building it just it takes everything apart and I don't envy Joe Shane this offseason I really don't because not only do you have Jones but you got Barclay you got your two star players on offense you got holes you know the interior offensive line still needs to be fixed you got issues with the wide receiving core right defensively you know you need linebackers this this holes everywhere so I think that's the number one reason Barkley goes man and I hate it too because he finally he's healthy puts together a full season Dynamic right he gets 10 touchdowns 1300 yards rushing does everything the team asked from great guy off the field Captain leader and you basically thank him by saying adios can't do it it sucks but it's the way these contracts are now in the NFL I'll say this though I do still Envy Joe Shane because the man got GM of the Giants gets paid a few million dollars a year and did not have to swallow any kind of poop rushes to get it that's right yeah

uh Tommy I gotta say I gotta think that when you got on the show you're like I'm not going to mention poop rushes once but no here it is it's like five times now it's been brought up in the TV show yeah yeah I was looking at my notes I didn't have any rebuttals for food brush tonight I'll be more prepared I hope so you never know what's gonna happen on this show now he's got a tally for poop rashes and this is how you know we're now in video and looking at sponsors we just said poop brush instead of we wanted

uh hey I think I need to shave somewhere guys sponsors oh that's that's that's that's that's that's that's a man's way of saying you need to shave and Escape something yeah

so yeah like but like I said I think it's an interesting off season for the position because I think Joe Shane well he has a lot of tough decisions this is one decision that I personally think he's got made up in his head I really do and I hate to say it because I'm I'm a fan of saquon as much as I talked about what we can do money wise into the economics of it I like having sequan because everything you guys mentioned the guys the consummate teammate he's been a great face of the franchise he's been a guy that you haven't heard once complained you know I've been I didn't even hear anything about him complaining back when Bobby Skinner made that fake thing about him supposedly you know peeing and burning down The Bear Stadium oh my God you know you would see some players though can you imagine that happened a guy like Aaron Rodgers as he comes out of his dark hole since the last four days yeah and this guy just say I've decided to peek on a stadium I would never do that like start like a big like media thing saquan's like whatever man like you know it's like that's funny right there and it takes a special personality to succeed in New York as well it really does and for those who don't know the New York media because they haven't lived in the area it's a different ball game entirely and this man has navigated that media the same media that blew the whole Daniel Jones things out of proportion two days ago this is what the media is in New York with no proof whatsoever I should say ruthless yeah yeah not one Scandal does this man have so listen to the end if it's allegedly that we know yeah wait till it comes out well it'll come out now if it comes out seems like everything's getting leaked in coming out now oh it's that time of the year man reporters are bored can you restart him he had a poop rush in his mouth number eight but yeah it's like it's that time of the year where these stories come out and I don't think anything's gonna come I think it's just honestly a good guy and if it's the end of the road for him you know we I just appreciate everything that man has given as a fan and you know I wish nothing but the best Forum wherever he goes uh you know I wish I wish we keep him honestly but that's what I honestly think is going to happen is I think Joe Shane is gonna set it up where we tried we couldn't do it and he'll get paid huge somewhere else we'll see if I'm wrong in that though I've been wrong before yeah once or twice but you know it happens occasionally he's gonna get paid Drew someone's gonna pay him someone's gonna pay Steve he's huge and that's why I don't feel as bad I would love for him to stay here but listen two you know injury riddled Seasons only played two games when he tore his ACL so I'm happy for him man I'd love for him to stay but turned it around this season he's gonna get a big bag somewhere if he does stay I'm even happier but you know gun to my head he's as good as gone I'm calling it right now four years 60 million dollars to the Bears we'll see if I'm right no that's not foreign

[Laughter]

musk owns it now he's a little busy with it with the exploding cyber trucks and all that kind of stuff so who knows what's going on he doesn't care

let's let's I want to talk to you about the other two running backs here we've talked obviously a lot of Sequon because he is the star he is the stud and he was the the whole show for us for the most part running game wise and I think that's part of why people forget that the two guys we had on the team and it's because they didn't get much of a shot to play let's be honest I mean we talked about the carries there Sequon 295 carries Matt Breda 54 Gary Brightwell 31. I mean that's an insane difference so I think both of them though did a very good job Adam but you guys Brightwell was the Shocker for me I thought this guy was a Joe judge BS pick a special teams guy only and here he comes in and obviously you know you can only do so much blowing away with 31 carries on the year but the games that he did show he showed something I was kind of impressed by that yeah and you know it was the kick returner right so he showed a lot on kick return He flashed a lot that burst that changed the direction that that instant change of Direction I like Brightwell as far as Brita I like Brita too but you know he's your typical veteran you know might be on the team next year might not might be somewhere else you know if he's going to be back there he's going to do what he has to do it's not going to be flashy or crazy but I think Brightwell is really the interesting player here because still young he's homegrown they obviously thought enough for him to put him on kick returns um and I thought he did well on kick return especially as the season wore on I thought he was even better kick returns and you also seen him you know 11 carry 60 yards versus Philly in the in the you know on the January 8th game so we did good against that Philly defense I like Brightwell I think he's someone that you know I I don't think he'll be the starting running back for the New York Giants I think yeah I don't think the starting running back is on the team right now you know excluding Barclay because this is a loaded loaded draft class for running back fellas in you know coming up you got some Dynamic running backs early rounds middle rounds later rounds I think that's where the Giants will get their starter in this draft so why don't you give us a couple of your picks I know you had a couple guys uh there yeah I'm curious especially I'll tell you this up front I think I speak for all giant fans when I say if we draft a running back in the first round I'm gonna flip the hell out because yeah there's don't get me wrong there's there's always a couple of top end guys that are really talented at every draft but I'm a big believer in you draft them into mid rounds because you see every single year you see a guy from the mid-round succeeding where there's Damien you know Damon Pierce over in Houston this year or you know a seventh or sixth round pick later on that comes out of nowhere like Elijah Mitchell over in San Francisco uh so so who do you got first so we should kind of keep an eye out especially if it's something that we're not hearing from everybody is this is the top running back that's that's the guys guys I'm kind of curious to hear about yeah I'm gonna give you three quick ones I'm gonna give you a top mid and a sleeper uh my top guy which would not be in the first round do not take a running back in the first round I'm sorry uh I know uh Robinson from Texas is dynamic and you know there's a big Delta between him and the rest of the running backs in his draft but when I say top round you know I'm looking at probably you know late day two I got somebody uh Jeremiah Gibbs maybe I'm saying his name wrong or Jamar Gibbs um Alabama running back 511 200 pounds smaller size great receiving back unbelievable uh very similar to Aaron Jones caught 78 passes on 93 targets five touchdowns 28 broken tackles over the last two seasons and you'll get him probably early mid day two he's somebody to keep an eye on if you want to wait go a little bit later in the draft uh Devin Kane from Texas A M extremely Dynamic back fits that you know if the Giants want to go back to that 11 personnel and you know that zone running scheme fits that perfectly he's five nine 185 uh he'll probably be again late day two slim slender but needs to be accounted for on every single snap doesn't shy away from contact 104 broken tackles on 385 pounds yeah damn that man used to visit a Golden Corral stat yeah he needs to hang out with with uh

[Laughter] listen New Jersey has some really good restaurants so I think he'll be okay there I I think he would be I miss a lot of them being down here the Hoboken area he'll be all right where you at Rob uh sister Jersey oh you're in Jersey okay we're both Mama County boys I'm just I'm I I'm just the guy who got tired of the cold so I moved down to Clearwater I don't blame you man I'm probably heading there soon I'm in Connecticut right now oh there you go see everybody says I'm headed I'm heading down there soon I'm telling you do it while you're young man do it while you're here I know I know I know I know because the property value here just going up and up and up and I'm telling you right now guess what it is right now with Jersey degrees it's almost 10 o'clock at night and it's the you know the tail end of February and it's 70 degrees here right now that's insane the high today is 83. is 43 degrees I might go to the beach this weekend that's what kind of weekend it is look at you man it's saying all right I got one more ready that's the way to go go for it yeah well everybody knows that everybody knows the Texas running back Robinson is the number one running back right he's the one everyone covets he's the one that might sneak into the first round I like his teammate Rashawn Johnson backed them up back Robinson up didn't get its honey carries now he's more of your traditional power back 6-2 Big Frame ridiculously high broken tackle rate I mean this guy just plows through people and you're gonna get him late you're gonna you're gonna get him later you know round five round six and he has untapped potential because you really didn't see what he could do because the Robinson you know getting all the fame and all the carries over there so I would keep an eye on him late in the draft I don't think the Giants go running back the first three rounds I think you're gonna see probably 5-6 round because they do have breeda and they do have bright wild it's not like the cupboards bear but those would be my three top mid um and my sleeper pick in um you know Johnson from from uh Texas those would be my three yeah and you gotta Wonder considering what we talked about before with the Zone scheme and everything that the Giants run do they look for someone who's not saquon obviously but saquon like sort of speaking their habits in their in their ways of of running the ball yeah I think they should have fit the scheme and that's something to look at too as well as we kind of scout these guys ahead of the draft so um but yeah I mean I I guess the the last thing I want to ask you guys here real quick before we get going here for the night is I'm kind of curious both of you guys what you think as far as what do you think the plan is going to be do we keep saquon do we not do we draft do we get a free agent do we do one of each so I'm curious about the atami you're the guest guests go first thank you very kind of you I was right appreciate you you know it's tough like I said with all my heart I want Barkley back finally got it together finally got healthy there's no question this Giants team doesn't even sniff the playoffs without saquon Barkley last season and it sucks to kind of reward him with that saying hey see you later but that's the business of the sport and this is not a Giants team that is a running back away from a Super Bowl Anything could happen next season you know I'm a positive guy my content is usually geared on the positive side but you know that should be a luxury free agent signing You're gonna give a running back 14 15 million you're ready to go win a Super Bowl now you got all the pieces in place so I think he's as good as gone unfortunately I think you see the Giants take a running back in the later rounds pair him with Brightwell I think Brita is going to be back and I think you're riding with that three-headed monster and uh everything tells you that that's the result Shane's comments at the at the end of the season presser in Buffalo it was always running back by committee never paid the running back and then turn saying flat out I'm not going to tell him he's not important enough to give 10 million a year which is a is a large sum but to me that was the sticking point and like I said again allegedly allegedly we don't know exactly what's going on you know we've seen with the CAA Jones thing it's a bunch of mudslinging so allegedly they don't even want to give him 10 million so I think he's gone I think he's out of here and you're going to see a running back by committee I think that'll fit the 11 personnel scheme that they ran last year you know if they want to alter it I still think committee is the way to go I think you bring back Jones at a fair rate it's not going to be 45 million you keep building in the trenches you know get yourself a middle linebacker and that's how you continue to build this team up not by giving a running back 14 15 million a year agreed how about you Rob

yep I think you hit the mute button Rob

he's talking to us telepathically right yes I can see what you're I I upgrade I got the ESPN now hold on brain waves is going laughs I think what he's saying is Drew is the best co-host someone could ever ask for he is spectacular he is my idol he is the wind beneath my wings as the great Bette Midler would say I thought he said Tommy but it might have been true too I might be right I I know he sits spectacular things about you Tommy I know that I know that he's so Rob if you could talk later if you get your sound back list so let us know or Rob man rob found to get this time to shine I know this was his moment this was like he was like this was your your like you're dropping the three-pointer for the win or the finals and like I mean there he goes there we go probably right let's go I hit the unmute just in time I mean what I think oh

oh we lost them again yes we got you now I think you're sounding your voice you're sounding your in your mouth are not quite in motion though

can you can you hear me yeah we can hear you yeah you're leaving us the suspense Rob it's not damn it fantastic I don't know what happened ah you son of a gun all right just go with you go with you what you got to say and we'll go to Verizon go for it yes no maybe there goes that Verizon yeah [Laughter] it comes true if you get DJ

they get DJ and the balls come back because the Giants

were so than that because there's two players together that if they can save the money by having the two best most valuable players for that for the team they get spent once again if it's 15 million dollars he's out the door

once you've got a couple of comments here from one of our regulars here Ken Cristiano who we know is embarrassed fan as well so I'm shocked he didn't uh chime in we talked about I was talking about saquon to the Bears because I do think that's going to happen unfortunately he said must be nice that's what I was talking about living here in Florida let me assure you it is nice it says you hit the new button bro he did he did then we have I did not happen hey guys today I was hearing they were saying on the K show maybe Giants go after Derrick Henry I don't know I didn't hear that but I don't watch the K show and I'll say this if they said that that's reason for me not to listen to the gay show because there's no way that they're gonna let the fake one go and then go get Derrick Henry and pay him the money instead a guy doesn't fit the running scheme they have a guy that's had just as much injuries and probably has less tread of the tires that Barkley does at this point absolutely because people forget Barkley had a couple years of getting hurt which is bad don't get me wrong but it also means he's got less you know less less miles less miles on his tires there yeah absolutely so he's got much younger legs than Derrick Henry does here so so before we get going guys Tommy do me a favor let us everybody know where they can find your work and all what let me know where they can find the Tommy's Take podcast also where they can find you on social media please well first of all thank you fellas to have me on the show really appreciate it I know we're supposed to do it last night I had something come up thank you guys for rescheduling for tonight I really look forward to working with you guys love what you do here on the show I really really thoroughly appreciate you know getting an invite I've only been doing content myself for a little over a year now and everything's just kind of sped up and kind of blew up but I appreciate every invite means the world to me I love chopping up about Giants football for those that do want to catch me Tommy's takes Giants country YouTube um had the show for about six months now building it up you guys would love it you know we do game breakdowns previews reviews rosters whatever you like giants I cover it on Tommy's takes you can also find me on Twitter at Tommy G105 and of course our Giants country team Patricia trainer um check us out you know we're doing some really really big things you know I'm sure me Drew and Rob will be working together more in the future I would love to do some more stuff with you guys but that's where you can catch me good and I'll say this Rob said not to reschedule with you he was very upset but I said no Rob we're gonna give him a stop

that's why I hit the mute

yeah with my mute button dude no seriously you do great work there I definitely wanted to include you and one of the things I like about your work Tommy and I'm I'm big on this and that's why we had the Entertainer on here and yourself here to start off they were doing the position breakdowns is I like to follow guys that don't buy into the you know the the scare speak that a lot of people drum up this this BS rumors just to get extra hits just to get extra downloads you know Rob and I definitely refuse to do that kind of stuff we're gonna give people our honest opinion like I said we were on that night even on on Mondays telling people hey I think this is overblown this is probably BS yeah I heard other people on I'm not gonna name any names I don't want to be that negative guy but I heard other stuff that I saw that but like oh this is ridiculous why does Daniel Jones think he's worth this blah blah blah it torch Giants Twitter was an absolute shambles the last three days absolutely oh my God I had a couple people that I've interacted with not even joking for a couple years now yeah literally fight with me and and block me and unfriend me and fall onto it like listen at the end of the day we love the Giants we love Daniel Jones but it's never that serious but that comes from those guys that make up the rumors the sky is falling don't sign any free agents let Barclay go let Jones go cut every veteran start all rookies that's who it comes from because guys like that do not like the positive content creators they don't like the uh the normal we'll call the content creators the level content creators right and that happens but you know you guys are right right where I'm at you know we have the same vision you know what not too high not too low don't guess like these rumors we're not cutting everybody and starting all rookies you know Jones is not a terrible quarterback I hate some of the stuff I see on Giants Twitter it's just ridiculous and I've started to separate myself from a lot of that stuff because it's just a repetitive cycle because what's going to happen is Jones going to get his deal and those guys that said don't pay him he's horrible they're gonna harp on every single mistake he made you've seen it last year when these guys bringing up all 22 you know these these guys that know nothing about football behind the scenes they know nothing about actual X's and O's but all of a sudden they become actors they got their you know NFL plus access all 22. that's why I don't touch film like that I know it's ton about football but I'm not going to touch film unless I know exactly what I'm talking about because you make yourself look like a fool yeah exactly and I mean you know I played a little bit of football in high school I was a starting left bench I had a scholarship opportunity at University of Phoenix University of Phoenix was going to sign me online only baby the player what what it boils down to is anybody can look at film and pop-up mistakes that's life and it's it's it's so easy when for you and you can slow down the tape like that nobody has that go look at Patrick Mahomes tape you can find mistakes and stuff like that too as well nobody plays it perfect like that and in the end I've been pretty consistent on the fact that I think Jones is probably at this point an average quarterback in the league I'm still not sold on him being the guy who can take us to the Super Bowl but I think he's at a worse than average Quarterback in this league Rob thinks he's a pro bowler he's very big on that he said this year Pro Bowl I'm gonna bring it up every time we talk about Jones Rob just beware is that true Rob pretty much

that's another whole two hour show if we get to go I would say I lean a little more towards Rob I think I think Jones is above average with a very very good opportunity to be an elite quarterback I mean look at what's happened his first you know three years in a league three head coaches four offensive coordinators bottom 10 offensive line every year bottom 10 wide receiver unit every year right he didn't have Barclay essentially for two of those years so you don't pay somebody based on potential but the potential is there for him to be elite but I could also see someone saying he's average because that is what the numbers say just to be honest that's what the passing number says it's really scary yeah you could say that no lie when Rob said he was going to be a pro bowler I I was thinking he was going to throw these big round balls with these funny shoes on at that point that's what I thought he mentioned

all right guys so again Tommy thank you very much for coming on we do definitely appreciate it uh guys we're gonna have tomorrow night for you guys because of our rescheduling we're gonna have back to back episodes so tomorrow night we're gonna have our wide receiver breakdown with mace uh if you guys are familiar with his work on Twitter and on Instagram this guy knows my brother shout out mace he knows his stuff he's a hard worker when I talked in the beginning I'm like I'm like who do you want to talk about receivers and I'm kind of like yeah he's a Beckham guy I know that yeah I was just gonna say you better get ready for some Odell and Rob and I are not Beckham guys and and I I'll tell people Point Blank I never want people that blindly agree with me and Rob hell Rob and I don't even agree

[Laughter] so as giant fans again thank you very much for listening in if you've been watching us live here on either Facebook Twitter or YouTube feel free to also download us on audio podcasts on pretty much every platform there is no demand and if we're not on it let's be frank it's not an important platform you're listening to your podcast Sonic you probably should switch to one that's better and if you guys are listening to us on the audio feel free to like us over on Facebook on Twitter on YouTube hit that little bell too if we're on YouTube like the entertainment told you guys their last episode here as well and like I said we'll be available all our our different episodes on both different types of platforms video and audio so you guys have no matter how you want to listen to these goofballs talking about football and again we appreciate you guys taking the time to listen to what these goofballs have to say here because let's be honest there's plenty of platforms out there there's plenty of different ways you can get your Giants news we appreciate you guys picking us is the way you want to receive it there and before we get going Tommy we have a little tradition here that we do I don't know if you call any of the very very end of our episodes before because we know we're long-winded sometimes like an hour and a half like the last one we like to end it with a Goji man we like to end it with a Goji man so okay on the count of three guys one two three
